starting the car without the key

And no I am not referring to the convience package. I was test driving the 07 supposedly without the convience package and the MA showed me that if you turn off the car and take out the key, wait a couple of seconds and put the start button again and the car started back up. Anyone else able to comfirm this?

yes, it works. Even if you dont have the comfort access feature. The same thing happens in BMW's. Not sure what the reasoning behind this is

Yes.

Not sure why it works in some and not others. Maybe I had the clutch in the whole time? Can anyone think how this could be useful?

Perhaps you have to keep the door closed? If you open the door, it should cancel that feature (speaking generally).

Works on some not on others. Must be the ghosts of Oxford at work again.

I've got a 3 series and it has the same feature. I read somewhere that it works that way in case you drop the key under the seat and can't get to it, you can still start the car and get home.

I tried it again today paying closer attention and it did indeed work. Started right up.

All you have to do is press the button?
Seems like an easy way to steal a car: wait till
they get out of the car, then break in and just press the button.
quick gettaway.

it only lasts 20 seconds according to the manual - have not timed it. Takes me that long to unbuckle, get myself together and out of the car. You would have to be assaulted before you even stepped out.
