Differences Between PIAA lights and OEM?

Better/worse/pictures?

I want to get driving lights for my 06 MCS, but I also would like to save money at the same time. That being said, I know the PIAA driving lights are about half the cost of OEM's (and don't have to be programmed at the dealer)...but do they look the same as the OEM's? The websites I have seen them on seem to say they are in black steel, and the OEM's are chrome (or shiny ) steel. I'm going for a chrome-blow out kind of look, so that would be a nice touch.

One final question, I was looking on myminiparts.com and noticed that the chrome antenna/washer bezels don't fit 05 and beyond MINI's. Anybody know where to get them for an 06?

Thanks!
Dave

Chows pointed these out to me, I'm probably going to get them if I do driving lights this year.

They come in chrome, and to me look more like the OEM lights, which I think are very good looking.

If you want the PIAA's be sure to get the 540 kit for Minis as it comes with the mounting brackets you will need

(sorry pic is dark, been meaning to take another)

Best prices anywhere for PIAA lights is http://stores.ebay.com/MVPAutoParts

It's where I got these 540 Ion Fogs, which I love. I had the OEM driving lights on the top bumper and they were both broken by stones within a year. The PIAA lights are very, very tough and I have not heard of anyone breaking them. They also come in chrome. Good luck.

We've got both and I prefer the Hella ff200's over the OEM version. Simply because the projection if more refined and you don't have to remove covers to use them.

Check page 4 of my Parts & Mods section in my Gallery for more photo's.

BTW, someone posted a website that had the PIAA 540's for around $138 I think, maybe 3 months ago. Edit: Price was $156 and they are no longer avail .... sorry.

Also have some shots of my son's car (IB/B) with the huge Vsion VX-9000's in the tidbits gallery

i think the stock ones a bit small, for my taste anyway. PIAAs all the way

the rock guards are easy to remove and you could always powder coat them chrome if you want

Here are my Hella FF200s as fogs.

If you are concerned with Function over Form, the Hellas are half the price of the PIAA and have a better light pattern

If I were buying a new car today, I would never get the OEM driving light. For the same price, you can get the Hella FF200 Driving lights in Xenon ... far more powerful
