Cleaning under the hood

Does anyone have recommendations for cleaning under the hood. I have always been worried about spraying parts that should not be sprayed with water.

probably wouldn't want to spray down a freshly run engine, (really hot).

You can spray it with water, jsut be mindful of the electronics and try to use a soft stream of water instead of a jet. Definatly try 303 Aerospace Cleaner from DetailersParadise.com

Any issues with getting water insider the injectors if there's a gap where your plugs/wires are?

I use a Scuncii(tm) steam cleaner.

It's sorta like the "Shark Steam Cleaner" they have on the infomercials, but the Scuncii is a true "closed-pressure" steamer, with some great attachments for getting in the hard to reach places.

The high pressure steam cuts through grease & grime (without chemicals) and you don't have to worry as much about the electro-mechanicals under the bonnet, because you can very easily and precisely direct the steam where to go.

I use some old rags to wipe off the loosened grime once the steam does its job. It took about 30-45 minutes to detail my engine to a tee.

Bear in mind, I used it to get my engine "show car ready," - so for a "once in a while" cleaning, it would take about 15-30 minutes to clean your engine bay to great satisfaction.

AND... if you have to get your MINI serviced, you can bet that your mechanic will respect you and your MINI for serving up a nice clean engine bay.

I wouldn't use a water hose...B&D has the right idea, but if you do use a hose definitely cover any electrical wires, especially the distributor cap and you want to cover the alternator (not sure if it is exposed). My friend cleaned under the hood and forgot to cover the alternator, the car alternator and battery were dead within a day.

really greasy parts on paper towels.
