Coming To Maui to a month

Hey guys i'm going to be in Kapalua Maui for a month for work. I'll be very busy during the week but will be free for the weekends. I know theres some super nice golf course over there. Other than Golf what is there to do on Maui??? Go-Karts or good places to eat or any beaches i have to see? I will have a rental car so i'm ok to drive.

thanks in advance,
Chris

1) the best place to eat is Penne Pasta in Lahaina. It is cheap too. Try their "pasta diablo"; I'm sweating thinking about it now:impatient

2) the best beach is the nude beach right next to Makena beach. Don't worry, nobody is forcing you to be nude if you are insecure. But body surfing in the nude is the best SH#T. You can snorkle too. The sand is white and perfect!

3) the best activity to do is the volcano downhill bike thing. You get to watch the volcano (inactive), sun rise, and bike downhill for 2.5 hours!

4) get a hotel room in Lahaina. Everywhere else is kind of boring at night.

5) get the maui book "Maui revealed". It covers everything about Maui.

Enjoy!

Just a warning about doing the ride at sunrise. IT IS COLD!!!!!! After all it is just over 10,000 feet above sea level.

I wish I would have had my MINI when I did the Road to Hana. 52 miles with 600 curves and 54 bridges.

Jughead is correct, it will be COLD; in fact, it'll be freezing so wear warmer clothes when visiting Haleakala. If I remember correctly, the downhill bike places may provide warm wear (I kinda remember everyone wearing yellow tops and bottoms).

Call ahead if you are thinking about driving to Hana. A few months ago they lost some bridges (can't remember if it was due to the rains or the earthquake).

Not sure when you'll be there but depending on the season, I'd suggest a whale watching cruise (pretty awesome sight!). Also would suggest a snorkeling tour on Molokini Island (top of a crater in the ocean that is a safe and awesome place to snorkel). If you are into auto-x, here is a site to Maui's SCCA activities : http://www.mauiscca.org/ (all year-long racing in Hawaii!). Oh another great place to snorkel (if you want to drive and do a little hike) is Honolua Bay, just west of where you will be staying (http://www.hawaiiweb.com/maui/beaches/HonoluaBay.htm).

fun stuff in Maui

--For dinner with friends check out Lulu's. I don't think you can order anything bad at that place. Be prepared to eat though. It's not a date night place but it's a fun sports bar kind of atmosphere without the creepy people.

If you want to go for a really nice drive with two really cool places to check out at the end of it check this winery out...

http://www.mauiwine.com/

The drive up there is twisty but paved surpisingly well. It's also coastal so while you're enjoying the curves and apexes your passengers can check out the really awesome coastal view. Don't speed too much on this road though or you might get airborne as in Dukes of Hazard style.

There's also the tours that leave from Maui Ocean Center...

http://www.mauioceancenter.com/News_and_Calendar.html

I'm not sure if they sponsor the boat tours but they have several tours that take you out to Molikini Island and Turtle Cove from the MOC. Lot's of turtles and occasionally some whale watching.

Or for something more cultural check out the Feast at Lele...
http://www.feastatlele.com/

Or the Old Lahaina Luau...
http://www.oldlahainaluau.com/index_main.html

That should keep you busy in Maui.

Aloha,

Have dinner anywhere but go to Kimo's on Front St. in Lahaina for desert, got to have the Hula Pie, and you can split it with your dinner date, worth the trip.

Mahalo,

Mike

For other islands check past threads in this forum- it's been discussed before.

Maybe if you are lucky you can rent a MINI on Oahu and take it to autocross at Aloha Stadium. We don't have dates but maybe we will for August.

Good call on the Road to Hana, Would have been better in a MINI but was still great.

I know this is kind of late to the game but I just found this helpful list a few weeks ago. My wife and I have done a few of them and they have been a lot of fun. We are trying to do them all. Aloha!
