HELP - Anybody activate the audible low fuel warning setting

I am picking my MINI up tomorrow and had them program the audible fuel warning to be active. I was wondering if it only alerts once? If more, at what frequency does it alert? Also, when does it alert, 1/4 of a tank?

If it does it too frequently I will want to deactivate it.

Thanks,

My dealer told me it didn't exist (3/13/03 pickup).

It does. According to my dealer, it is a setting normally only done in Europe, but they can enable it looking at those instructions. I am the first one they have activated it for and they do not know how it performs. Hopefully somebody does and can let me know tonight. It is an 1 1/2 hour drive to the dealer so I would not be able to deactivate until my first service.

My MA never heard of it either, but he passed my request to service.

When my computer showed a range of 45 miles (on my very firest tank) the bell sounded at the same time the low light (the last bar on the fuel gauge) lit up.

It was very cool. Make sure they do it for you

Good luck.

Regards,

Interesting. Didn't even know this existed. If they do get yours activated be sure to let us know if it's like the 37 Degree "hey look out for black ice" ding. Also at what fuel level does it ding (or is it set off by a certain number on the range meter).

Thanks and let us know how you make out.

Red,
That is how I hoped it worked. One gong at the same time as the light. Sounds great.

Thanks

That's how mine works as well - a little bell ding for about a second when the light goes on.

I believe the gauge showed about an 1/8th when the light when on with the "ding".

The computer was pretty close when it said 45 miles, because I put 11 gallons into it.

Ok, asking for a little help here. I had post over on MINI2 about this programable option and had been contacted by Mini Division that yes it could be done.

Went in for a windshield replacement, stress crack, (that's another story) and tried to have this option set, well they couldn't find how to do it.

So you guys that have had this programmed, how about posting your dealership info? That way mine can contact them.

Thanks

Have the dealer print out your available options. If it's not on your list, maybe a flash upgrade is in order.

Vespa, it was your post over on Mini2 that I replied to which brought the call from MINIUSA saying it could be done.

I've had the upgraded software V3.2 installed, but it's not that. It's finding where in the system to activate it that my dealership is having trouble with. As of this afternoon so was MINIUSA, they couldn't find the procedure either.

Anybody want to post their dealer info?

If you drive your MINI and/or listen to the stereo, I don't think it is worth it!
I had mine programmed, and at 2500 miles I have heard it once.
What I did hope for is that it would chime each time the car is started, if the fuel is low - but it does not seem to do that (or maybe it is very quiet).

The first time, when watching out for low fuel, I not only heard the chime but also saw the whole fuel gauge flash on/off a few times - anyone else seen that?

Smokey4, Coming home from Charlotte a few weeks ago, I experienced one "ding" when the low fuel light came on. I can't remember exactly what the TC stated for remaining miles, but I'm sure it was under 55 I was passing the Chesnee exit, and did not want to stop until I reached my exit (Pelham Rd). I've seen numerous posts on the inaccuracy of the TC, but thankfully mine was very close

We have the same dealer "Century" MINI in Greenville SC.

REMEMBER ALL, WE KNOW WAY MORE THAN THE DEALERS DO

We just went to the dealer today to have them reprogram all the options. After not being able to convince the service guy, he said we had to talk to sales, they didn't know, I printed Vespa's list then returned to service. Even in the service garage the technician tried to argue with us, I showed them on the display after they hooked it up. They all finally shut up and started listening. I will email anyone the list who needs it nyne@attbi.com. They need Car & Key Memory M33.0. There is a ton of options like holding the unlock toggle to roll down windows and sunroof, auto unlock if you have auto lock.

I never ran out of gas, so I can safely go past the 1/2 tank mark without breaking a sweat. Of course, it is not good to run your tank all the way down, but two gallons is reasonable IMHO.

My dealer is MINI of the Hamptons on Long Island.
They are a sponsor of MCO. Their service department had the car set up exactly the way I wanted it.

Regards,
Red

>>I am amazed at how many people run their fuel so low
(remember, Hawaii had the highest gas prices in the country before the war)
Keeping up with the trend, I'd fill up every week also. Now that gas prices has somewhat stabilized, I maintained the habit of weekly refueling (BTW, $1.99/gal., cheaper than California, for the first time )

I've never been below 1/2 tank so won't know if I have the low fuel audible warning I'll get a print out on my next service visit and see if they can enable it, if not already.

Thanks minimonkeygrrl for pointing it out to them and to MCO.

old thread!

It's just one of the many Vehicle Memory functions that can be set by the service department in the computer. There are many threads about the memory settings.

Ian is exactly right. If you have the radio on even at a normal volume, you won't hear it.

Yup.......It is at about the same volume and pitch as the low temp warning. Not very loud at all and only chimes once.

Does this work in conjunction with the onboard computer on the '06? I drive with the "Estimated Range" displayed, and have gone as low as single digits before stopping to tank up. my fuel gauge red bar is ALWAYS lit up (maybe because of the OBC). That said, I'd still like an audible warning if one is available, just in case.
