06 MINI - Aux Cable iPod Avail?

Howzit NAM,

Our mini cooper was born last year (06 Mini Cooper) and we are loving it (solid as we hawaiian would say it). However, I think we messed up when we forgot to include the Ipod option and now we seem to regret that. I have read through the other options such as the AUX and IPOD dock and it seems that we would love to go the AUX route (same as our bmw), my questions are:

1. If I purchase an AUX cable will this be a direct plug and play with my current basic 2006 Mini HU?
2. How do I know if my 2006 Mini HU's mode would accept the AUX option?

Mahalo and TIA

Yep. Very easy to install.

Because they all do.

I slapped an OEM iPod adapter and the AUX jack into my '06 MCS right after we got home. Took little more than a Philips head screwdriver and a set of Torx bits (T25 and T40, to be exact), and some instructions I pulled off of NAM.

Looking back, I should have opted to go with the DICE over the OEM iPod adapter -- the DICE is en route right now. OEM iPod adapter.... well, it sucks, to be frank. Very, very limited capabilities, giving you the worst of your Mini radio and the worst of the iPod, instead of the best of both.

Got Nav? There will be two extra wires to move over when you do it.

It is truly simple simple to do, takes but a few seconds. Don't have to pull out the stereo. Just drop the kick panel down and reach behind the unit plug in and drop the wire down to where you want to put the plate.. I did it myself in less than 10mins including mounting the plate. I'm in Concord area if you want help.

Thank You - Mahalo for the offer! Was your mini delivered in Concord Mini too?

No, I ordered from East Bay Mini to avoid the dealer imposed "market value"... however I work less than a mile from Concord MINI and had taken my Z3 to the ConcordBMW in the past so will probably use them for service issues.

Anyway, hope you got it all working or let me know if you want some help.

I went the CHEAP route....I connect the ipod via the Aux input. I run it via the Belkin Auto kit...this pauses the ipod when you shut the car off and then the ipod shuts itself off after a while after it goes into pause. This Belkin unit connects to the car's aux input at the cigarrette lighter plug so it make a clean looking and sounding connection. I keep the ipod on the parcel shelf when I leave the car, but when I use it I place it on a bracket I made that attaches it via velcro on the left downtube

I know, we wanted to order from East Bay BMW but they had a waiting list longer that when I bought my E46 M3. So we ended up paying the extra $$$ to get the Mini Cooper that my wifey wanted. I will go there for my first service for the mini (6201 miles - turned 1 y/o yesterday ). I will most likely buy the aux ipod somewhere else had previous bad experience buying from EAS
