MINI "S" or is it???
I went to the grocery store this morning to pick up some items for dinner tomorrow night. While I was there I saw a Chili Red Mini. I walked over to it and started to look at it. IT had "S" side vents, aero rear bumper, "S" gas lid, "S" hood, sport seats, 6 speed shift ****, and a single exhaust. The exhaust is what confused me It had a single magnaflow exhaust, but it was off to the right side like on a non-s. I wasn't sure if it was a cooper "S" or not. IT had everything a cooper "S" had, except for the exhaust in the middle.
Strange. It think that it's more likely than not that it was an "S". Although who can say. That's kinda a poser thing to do if it's not an "S" though. That being said, I saw a guy make his "S" look like a Cooper by removing the scoop and a few other touches.
Marc what was werid is when he was leaving I heard a spooling sound, then the loud "Pshhhh!" as from a turbo. So I didnt know if it was a turbo'd "S" or a Turbo Cooper or what. I know you can buy attachments that make your car sound turbo. Who knows it was crazy though.
I think there's at least one exhaust for the 'S' that has a single offset-exit pipe, and there's a matching rear bumper with the proper cutout to accomodate it.
If you happen to see the car again, take a peek at the VIN plate on the dash - if it's an 'S', the fifth digit will be an "E" for a hardtop or an "H" for a convertible.

**Edit**
If you heard a "psssh" sound when he was leaving and wondered if it was turboed, you should have mentioned it in your first post because it is pretty significant to the story.
It was probably just a regular S with a custom exhaust and you mistakenly heard a squealing brake pad and assumed it was a spooling turbo.
Since you had the time to look into his car and tell it was a 6sp. manual, you should have had time to write down his license plate number, looked for some aftermarket gauges, then look at the wheels. Those are key factors that would help someone identify a car. No one on this site can answer how he got his turbo if no one knows whose car it is or what is even on it.

Please stop making up stupid fantasies man. If you heard a "psssh" sound when he was leaving and wondered if it was turboed, you should have mentioned it in your first post because it is pretty significant to the story.
If this story is even true, it was probably just a regular S with a custom exhaust and you mistakenly heard a squealing brake pad and assumed it was a spooling turbo.

Ive seen it in the dallas area.. S emblems but regular hoods and single exhaust

Two local club members recently swapped side-repeater grilles because she wanted the plain black slats on her Jet Black "S" and he wanted the chrome slats on his MC. There are chrome grilles for the MC that don't have the 'S' emblem, but the swap was free.
if it was turbo, I could see the cooper exhaust being easier to tune. however, the magnaflow would have to small of piping for a turbo car.
There were no rear markings, except for the Mini Wings
I just find it very ironic that most of the threads started by Jtrem the past couple of months have been about a MC turbo, S hood on MC, MCS side repeaters on a MC, new magnaflow exhaust, etc.
Then he happens to see a MC that has all this stuff done to it? So you then go inside and shop and happen to come back out just in time to catch the Mini Cooper driving out of the parking lot and giving it enough gas to make its BOV release.

Think what you may. You have been reported.
I have a confession to make...my MC has S side repeaters. I didn't like the black ones and wanted chrome ones. Moss Mini had the S ones for $25 pair or slatted chromed ones for $120 pair. I got the S ones because my last name starts with S.
Also, after an unoccupied car rolled into the drivers side of my MC, one of the things that had to be replaced was the side skirt. I got two S ones and replaced both sides, because I think the S ones look better.
I feel better now.

I have the JCW logo on my CF dash, and I'm frequently getting people assuming that I have the JCW kit in my car, or that I'm trying to pass mine off as a JCW car.
I'd remove the logo if I could, but it's buried in the clearcoat and can't be removed. So I just patiently explain to them that JCW *does* in fact make other products besides the performance kit.
I wish JCW weren't so liberal with their logo placement. I'd have probably gotten the CF brake handle and steering wheel inserts if they didn't have the logo so prominently-placed. At least there's no logo on the CF downtubes, shifter trim ring or cupholder rings, so I only have the one logo on the dash for right now.

Is the Aero Kit 'S'-specific? I don't know much about it, but I thought you could order it with either the Cooper or the 'S'. I guess the rear bumper would have to be different to accomodate the exhaust, though.
aero kits ?
Not around here - I have only seen a couple of Mini's with them, personally I think that thay are ugly and detract from the lines / look of the car...
But then I prefer go to show....
