Denver Blizzard and my MINI

the MINI stayed safe and warm....the subaru got stuck in nearly 3 feet of snow in the neighborhood, so it will sit there for a few days. My wife finally made it home after 2 days.

With the drift and pile of snow behind the MINI, almost 5 feet high, there is no way that car is going anywhere until there is some serious melt

and this is my dog playing in the snow...she is about a 40 lb. Austrailian Cattle Dog and is about 24" high at the shoulder....at times she would completely vanish under the snow

Chloe is out looking for the snow ball I threw out in the yard. She is in love with the snow and chases the snow shovel all day long. I think she played hard in the snow for at least 6-7 hours today. Right now, she is totally crashed on the floor near a heating vent

Hi! My Mini has a similar story to tell....she stayed warm and cozy in the garage while her owner (me!) had to walk to the grocery store today. I don't have a second car. But the walk was fun, beautiful, great exercise and I met lots of people doing the same thing. So I will be riding the bus to work tomorrow while my "pampered" Mini sits in the garage and waits for some major melt. I love my car too much and can't bear the thought of her stuck in a huge snow drift (my parking lot is giant snow drift). So I am carless for a few days but it's a fun adventure. Minis with snow tires may be able to handle snowy roads but common sense told me that a Mini cannot handle 3 ft. snow drifts. But the blizzard has been fun and I've enjoyed the paid "snow days" off from work. I hope to be able to drive again by Saturday!!

And here I am stranded in Los Angeles with all the sunshine instead of being in Denver tonight.

official totals were just announced on the news...Parker got 37" of snow. That is frickin crazy.....then factor in the drifts. My neighbor's house had a drift up to the top of their garage door, and we all have over sized doors....so that was an 8 foot drift!!!! I helped him clear half of it, and after doing my drive on my own, I was spent. I can hardly move my arms, and I have a monster headache at the moment.

Time for advil, a warm shower, and then some good sleep tonight.

I love the Subie buried out there by the fence...LOL!

I'm so jealous of the snow. It's been 50 damn degrees all month in New England and now it's going to rain all weekend. We may never get to ski

I guess you'll be having a very white Christmas. Great pics of the puppy. I bet your MINI may have looked similar if you'd driven her. You'd have to have replaced your stubby antennae with stock to get the same affect Stay warm over there

That is my Subie...my daily driver. Nothing goes in 37" of snow

I was getting out of the way so my wife could get her Tacoma in the drive....but she never made it home. I just parked it well enough away from plow activity so that is where it will be sitting for a couple of days.

At least I will be able to head to the Hospital tonight for work....she is lending me her Tacoma and she will stay home with the critters and drink hot cocoa.

Great pics! That is some pretty crazy snow fall, but then I must say, for Denver it is not surprising. You guys always seem to get crazy snow.

Great pics!! Gee, and I thought Tulsa got a bunch of snow earlier this month--a whopping 10 inches!

To everybody up there, "Stay safe and warm!"

Geez... I love snow, mostly cuz it's Christmas and cuz Ohio isn't gonna get any this year...it's 53 degrees right now and is raining. However, the wife and I are headed for the dragon's lair tomorrow...DENVER. Ya think our flight will be able to land? Are the roads cleared enough for family to pick us up, or should we get the shuttle?

o3indigo,

A friend of mine lives in Parker and drives a yellow 03 MCS. I wonder if you've ever seen him? (not sure how big Parker is)

Parker is about 45K people, I have seen a lot of MINIs here, and I have seen a yellow one, or 2. May have been him. Tell him I am in Bradbury Hills, near Jordan and Main....and if he sees me, he must wave. But I only take my MINI out in the good weather, not even the rain.

As for those traveling to Denver, DIA will not open up until noon today, but they get back on schedule pretty quickly.

I just finished shoveling out the Subaru, and it is safely back in the garage where it belongs. It did really well once I cleared the 37"s that was in front of it to get to where the big 4x4s have made a path....then it was clear sailing from there...not one slip, and straight into the garage up my steep driveway.

Now to go back to bed because I work at the hospital tonight....boy, my arms are tired

There is more snow coming in from the west, supposed to be here either late Friday night or Saturday. Nothing too big. We still have 37" in Parker, about 28" in Denver. Most of the roads are getting cleared. Today will be sunny and warm in the 40's, so there will be some melt off, but then it will all turn to ice...so bad road conditions.

It will all be gone by the end of next week, colorado snow melts fast. The mountains are doing well, and this next storm headed here in the next 24 hours are going to make for some great ski conditions for those headed to the slopes.

yeah....REAL men use a shovel

Just kidding.

We only have had 3 storms in the last year that have required shoveling....so I don't mind that much. Keeps you in shape, clears out the arteries.

Yeah, I thought that too. The drive and walk ways were no problem, it was the horse corral, and the 24' x 50' area that needed to be cleared for constructing an out building that killed me.

Until your rotator cuff starts to be affected!

Great pics of the snow! We had a blizzard like that back east in 1996, and for many weeks it was dangerous to pull out of a driveway because the snow was piled so high you couldn't see traffic (looks like you have that now, 03).

Let's hope you don't get a sudden warm up...all that snow melting at once causes lots of flooding!

Well, it's about friggin time for us to get snow. Most people (especially the hard core skiers) here in Salt Lake were very jellous at the snow totals for Denver. We only got the very edges of this storm. However , we're getting A LOT of snow right now. I went to bed last night around 1:00 AM and there was hardly and clouds. Woke up at 7:00 AM and there was a fresh 6 inches and counting on the lawn. Mind you, I'm more in the valley then on the benches, so our mountains are getting hammered right now. If it stays on course, Southern CO might get the grunt of it. They're expecting over a foot in the valley and who knows how much they'll have just 15 minutes away in Alta and Snowbird. I'm just happy we finally have something to add to our 500" average annual. Skiing has been pretty bad so far, rock skis a plenty.

We're driving to Denver for the Holidays tomorrow and we need to figure out if 80 or 70 would be best. I love snow, but just not to drive in for long trips. And yes, the Mini is staying home. Big'ol Titan is our ride this time of year.
