I hate my OEM iPod adapter...
Let me just tell you...I was originally very pleased with my OEM iPod adapter. You might remember the whole fiasco I went through trying to figure out how to get it to work with the OEM Sirius.
Now, I hate it. It freezes my iPod every freakin 10 minutes. I have to take my iPod out of the iRide in the glove box, hold down the buttons to reboot it, and put it back in the iRide. Then, SOMETIMES it works, sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't, I have to go through the whole procedure again until it works. It's ridiculous.
I also don't really like the functionality (or lack thereof). While I'm okay with the barebones Sirius functionality (I don't really flip through channels, I'm pretty much addicted to TalkLeft, hee
), I can't STAND how I don't know what the heck is going on with the iPod.
Suggestions for a solution (that will work with my OEM Sirius) are appreciated.
Also, my iPod adapter is NOT done through the pass-through in the Sirius box in the boot. The dealer installed some sort of splitter to the back of the HU and it is hooked up there.

Although you won't gain any additional functionality you want, for academic purposes it is probably worth trying to connect the iPod adapter via the OEM SIRIUS pass-through. It might solve the crashing...
But then you'll still want a DICE anyway. LOL. The vendor who sponsors this forum, european auto source - sells the DICE, so you may want to start by looking there.
IPOD works fine
daflake is correct...mine started messing up as soon as I began downloading the upgraded firmwares. Once I brought it back with Updater 2004-04-28, it worked just like it's supposed to. It has performed fine every day for almost 2 years straight. Might be worth a try. Motor on.
You really should talk with Tom at EAS (www.europeanautosource.com). I bought a DICE as a replacement for the Ice Link Plus. I didn't need the cables since I had them from the Ice Link so the DICE module only cost me $99. Tom was very willing to discuss what I needed and even offered that I didn't need to buy the full blown kit since I had the cables already (saved me like $25). So give him a call and see what he says.

It's definitely the firmware. Most people are reporting problems from updating to 1.2. I would recommend downgrading to 1.1.1 if using the Video iPod.
Trending Topics
The 5th Gen Video is reported to have problems with 1.2. v1.3 firmware would mean you have a nano, which has no reported issues at this time.
I have a nano with the newest firmware and it locks up like crazy.

Mine does fine until you decide to skip a few songs or change playlists. Then it still plays, but no longer allows navigations. Also have to reset it when unplugged from the interface.

On the video ipods that are having a problem with version 1.2 of the software there are 2 things you can do that will almost always solve the problem.
First, make sure you are runnig the absolute latest version of iTunes. While versions that are close might sync they will corrupt the OS on the ipod.
Second, do a factory restore of the ipod with teh new software. By doing this it gets rid the update (actualy a software upgrade) and cleans up the ipod OS while making sure the very latest software is installed.
All I can say is a deal with these things everyday and I have direst access to info nobody else can for troubleshooting them.
99.9% of the time these 2 simple steps resolve the entire issue.
One last thing is if you are running windows and iTunes seems to act stnge form time to time. Delete itunes and re-install the software. It will work far better then to keep updating to the latest version.
BTW, the nano works the best restoring it rather then updating it.

Mine is a Nano as well, and is the exact same problem as described above. It PLAYS fine. Start trying to adjust between songs or between playlists and it locks up. And with the way the OEM works, where you're scrolling all the time to find the songs you want...it's just not pretty. I'm sure I'll be investing in a new solution after the holidays.

Yeah, I have a first gen 4GB black Nano with 1.3 loaded and no lock ups or other problems
Glad it works for somebody.
Yeah, pretty weird. In fact, I have never had an issue with my 4GB Nano and the OEM iPod adaptor. Sometimes I think that folks that experience problems have defective OEM adaptors, not necessarily the iPod's controlling firmware.
For the record, my '05 MCS has the factory H/K stereo.
