Many of the major leasing companies have stopped the purchase of
red autos.
Statistics show that the color red brings out the worse in people.
(Hence the expression "seeing red" when a person gets angry)
Stats have shown that red vehicles are involved in a very high percentage of accidents and road rage incidents compared to other colors.
One major car and truck leasing company has reported a 35% decrease in insurance claims since dropping red vehicles from thier car/truck fleets...
Supposedly, the color red sends the brain the signal to attack according to
head shrinkers.
I thought most animals were color blind, but why do matadors use red blankets?
I know I used to catch alot of bull frogs as a kid by dangling a piece of red cloth on a stick in
front of the frog and he would latch on to the thing. Other colors of cloth never worked as good.

I had a red car for 8 years and I don't miss it. They always turn pinkish after a few years and I went through a ton of polish and wax trying to maintain the red.
no more red cars for me please... I'm about to order my 2nd cooper and i'm
going with the BRG with a white roof

Probably right about red. I like it, but when I see a red emoticon I get all p***ed off.

I have to say I love your choice of BRG/White as that was my choice. No, it isn't a perfect British Racing Green, but it works for me!

I don't mean to offend red mini owners, but "just a tip" to future buyers before choosing a color.
Back when I was a kid, (yes a very longgggg time ago) I bought a BLACK TRANS-AM
"smokey and the bandit" special brand new in 1978. That black paint was a detailers nightmare. Black shows everything. One of the cars I presently own is black.
I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment...

Red is definitely an aggressive color. They have done studies on it regarding athletes. Which is why some major sports teams paint the opposing team's locker room softer colors, like beige. When I am competing (racing bikes) I always try to have at least one red thing on, anything helps!

Are you saying that drivers of red cars are more aggressive, or that it makes other drivers more aggressive? Seems to me that the driver of a red car can't see his own car, so that argument goes out the window. And if it makes other drivers more aggressive, then it seems that it would be pretty even across the spectrum as to who was getting in the accidents. I've never personally seen a red car and felt enraged, if somebody cuts me off, it doesn't matter what color they're driving, I'm gonna be mad, but I've never been one to act on it.

MCJoe you are being way too scientific with this. It is all about emotions! You obviously haven't learned anything in the off topic area. If you could measure it and analyze it we wouldn't need to discuss it!

Have always bought red cars Personally I think red has nothing to do with aggression. It's all in the mentality of the aggressor. I have seen road rage happening many times(not to me) & can't ever recall it being a red car. The St Louis Cardinals are red
The ballpark is a "sea of red". and on and on and on......
Happy Motoring(preferably in a red car)

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
SO...I have to submit that RED is the ultimate MINI color.

I love MINI's in all colors, but red rules, people.

'Nuff said.

I have to agree. The strongest colors are the most honest - red and yellow. Heck Ducati only made red & yellow bikes for a number of years! Red MINI, Red MGA, Red Alfas (2) and a yellow Ducati. Yet, my blood pressure is cool...

I seriously considered this when ordering Sadie. But:

1) most Minis I had seen in Britain were red/w or /b and it seemed to be a classic Mini color combo;
2) MINIs are so non-threatening as cars, I find so many people like her color in a way they wouldn't like an all-red Honda or Toyota;
3) I had to think long and hard about the color as I am a loyal "old blue" (U. Cal. Berkeley) taught to hate red (rival Stanford's color). I owned no red clothing for decades;
4) I decided that I would be the most considerate driver I could be (in a place where people generally are considerate, since a red and white MINI is quite memorable, and have had no remotely bad incidents in 10 months.

Red is traditionally known as "Resale Red" for a reason. Red used cars are generally easier to sell than a comparable car of a another color.

In late January around the time I was getting ready to place my order for a MCS, the SoCal MINI Club had a fun run that ended up in the little mountain town where I reside and there were about 40 MC’s of every color combination. A Chili Red/white top and wheels MCS is the one that really caught my eye. That’s what I ordered and that’s what I now drive. I have never had a red car until now, (had a red Ducati 916), call it my mid-life crisis but I like it!

I drove my Chilli red to Sonoma State University to watch my Alma Mater (red/white colors) play baseball. Everything was calm and nice until I walked up to the YELLOW box that dispenses short-term parking permits and the stupid thing was out of order. I walked another 200 yards to the next stupid YELLOW box that also wouldn't take my GREEN dollar bills. I was really fuming now and I wasn't going to waste my afternoon looking for another STUPID YELLOW box that probably wouldn't work anyway. I decided to forget the permit and take my chances. I finally calmed down when I saw the red uniforms of my team off in the distance. After a great game, it was a long walk back to the parking lot past the worthless yellow boxes to where my chilli red was parked. No ticket on the window and a fun drive home salvaged the afternoon.

Here's to more red things that work!

Andy

Lucky13 & all,
You are so right on. Red rules! Especially all chili red minis. Have not seen an
ugly mini yet, but some colors are much more pleasing to look at than others. Day in & day out, red rules the color world. BRG is a close second. I believe it is a law
in Georgia that red is the favored color. Go Dogs!!!
(foot note: opinions are like arm pits, everybody has two)

They say Yellow surroundings cause depression. I think it's all a bunch of psycho babble. I can see very little red when I'm in my CR MINI. I did have someone shoot me the bird yesterday. She was in a(one of jillions) silver car.

Just for the record, this is my first red car. I've owned Green (a `72 Nova, very close to silk green) white, white, white, silver and silver before picking red, just `cause it looks the best!

I have a CR/W 2004 MCS in order.

'Nuff said.

PS: Yellow cars are often associated with MANIACS!

Great story Andy!!!!

Made my night...I am a soon to be CR/B owner and I've always loved red and black cars. One of my favorites was a fire engine red 65 VW Karmann Ghia (oooh, very aggresive) I guess the leasing companies loss is our gain!

Peace, y'all!

this post started as an experiment to prove a point about red cars and the owners of them. You will notice as you read them how defensive every one of these red car owners became to the point of being downright agressive. The origional post was based on facts from national car leasing companies. Not one of the red car owners could agree with the statistical compilations compiled by thousands of drivers nationwide. In fact, a few of them even had to put down other colors to defend red!
I proved my point. RED brings out the worse in people and sends the brain the message to attack...funny stuff... :smile:

You seem to be a TROLL in disguise. You also seem to enjoy insulting and upsetting others. Get a life buddy.
