It is a fact that red cars have more accidents and are bandalized and stolen.
I would blame it both on the red car owner and other drivers. The red car owner probably feels on a ferrari and other drivers also see it as a ferrari and want to race him... just a thought
In my case, I actually drive more aggresive on my silver car than on my red cooper so that doesn´t hold, and the red/white combo combined with the cuteness of the car kind of eliminates the "aggresiveness" of the color.

You're not totally correct on the RED analysis.
Red = Sexy! (lipstick?)
Red= Romantic (roses?)
Red = Passion (sheets?)
Red = Stop! Take a look! (traffic signals)
Red = More classy (wine)
Red = Hot (fire or salsa?)
Red= Naughty (devilish?)
Red= Sacrifice i.e. Bloodshed (red stripes on our flag)
I could go on. Frankly, all my cars are red. Red is the most common color for sports cars.
If a person is going to be aggressive the color of their car isn't going to change their personality. It's pretty lame to say "The color of my car made me speed."
A lead foot is a lead foot in any color of car.

I didn't think any of us red car owners were being "aggressive" by posting in your thread,yellocooper!!! But now that you have waved the "red" flag in front of us you may truly see some aggression
We all love our MINIs no matter what color we choose. I truly hope you enjoyed your experiment.
May your days be filled with red

I'll give a real world example. A few years back, my father and I owned very similar B series Mazda pickups. His, 1992 and red. Mine, 1989 and beige. I would use his on occasion since I had a shell and he did not. My beige truck may have been the most invisible vehicle in my family's history (including a 1983 Volvo 240 DL in beige). I never was pulled over in mine. I received more tickets in my father's red truck than in my own, and I doubt I even drove 500 total miles in his compared to nearly 50,000 in mine prior to it's untimely demise. Two theories, I drove differently in the red vehicle or I was more obvious to law enforcement. Maybe a little of both is where the truth lies.
As for my MCS, it is BRG with matched top. For my $.02 worth, the BRG just doesn't look right with the white, but with black or top matched, much sweeter.

Have a red cooper and a red Porsche 356 and love them both. I don't think there is a better color for either car. Ferrari's too (wish I could afford one). Just as red was good enough for Enzo, red was good enough for John Cooper. The classic mini rally car of the 60's was red with a white roof. Most mini ads show a red/white car.
Besides, rental car company's buy fleets of cars to address the lowest common denominator. To that end, what do the practices of rental car companies have to do with buying your personal car, especially one like the Mini. Pulleeeeze.

RJSquirrel,
You're right on buddy! How bout dem dogs! Red red red, a sea of red in ole Sanford Stadium.
Just some facts to offer from 26 yrs in the auto insurance business. Red is one of
the safest colors you can own in a vehicle. Red can be seen! Less likely to be hit
by someone failing to yield right of way. Following to close. The most dangerious?
Light browns, greens, white, colors that blend in. The insurance industry is real
pleased with the new bold colors that are offered today.
This "red aggression syndrome" is funny to discuss on this forum but thats about all it is.
Just one more note: At the Spring Thing in Clearwater in March, I took a number of photos of the minis lined up in formation, old & new. The colors that stand out above all are red & yellow.

I guess the original poster doesn't think owners of other colors would be defensive when their choice is insulted?
Start a thread titled "Yellow is for cowards" or "Blue is for girls" and see what kind of respose you get.
I like all the colors, and could live with any of them on a MINI. But when you have a choice, you pick what you like the best.
I'm sorry for anyone who is so envious of another color that they feel the need to put it down.
You have a MINI, it's pretty, enjoy!

Great thread, lots of interesting responses!
Be careful not to confuse "defensive" and "aggressive" Most of the responses seem to be pointing out why red was chosen by the owner in response to "possibly" true color research.
Yellow is also a *VERY* strong color, used in warnings very often, and it is said that in a yellow room adults lose their tempers more easily and infants cry more...
No person or color is perfect...enjoy what you like and drive safe!!

Right on RJSquirrel, FIGHT ON! That's more Velvet Red than pure red, though. We are sporting the bright yellow though. Trojans all the way- we're the best football school in the country - we beat "STD Central" U of Miami and Ohio "Vacation Capitol of the Upper Midwest" State in the class and weather catagories, and who knows who #3 was last year anyway? Some ridiculous redneck school
I love the BRG MINI is using. Jaguar's version of that green is much more metallic if you look at it under light. I'm not sure if they call it a BRG though. yeah, sure it's not quite a 60's BRG, but did they even have metallic paint back in the day? Honest question, I don't know when metallic paint caught on.
And Antsmini can suck an egg - BRG rocks.
*said in jest - I don't want him to suck an egg*

You're right. Actually Yellow is more shocking than red. This is why many fire departments changed to yellow fire trucks and not red. And some towns painted their fire hydrants yellow rather than red.
A lot of rescue jackets are yellow!
What am I saying? If you're in trouble we'll be expecting a YELLOW Mini to the rescue!

>>Yellow and yellowish/green are the most visible colors in the color spectrum. (I learned this in school...I am not making it up.
)
I did a science report ages ago about what colors the eyes see best. Wish I had the diagram of the eye's color view to share here that I did for it, but the short version is that the eye can pick up shades of yellow better in peripheral vision and shades of red really stand out in direct view. There's an argument for fire trucks in both directions there.
One of the arguments why yellow is seen so easily compared to other colors is because of the color of the sun. I'm not sure why red is so strong in straight on viewing.

All the theories about colors of cars dont apply to me, because I dont believe in it.
Just like Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy quit coming to my house after I quit believing in them!

Doesn't color perception have more to do with the concentration
of cones and rods on the retina?
