Insane Brake Dust with JCW brakes

I have the JCW brake kit on my '06 and the brake dust is absolutely insane. My 17" S-lites are dirty after only about 50 miles of mixed driving. What are the common pad upgrades to minimize dust, yet still deliver the same braking performance?

Thanks for any help.

I switched wheels to the 18" JCW but don't have that much dust, try waxing the wheels and see if that helps, I also use a cleaner with a brakedust repellent in it, seems to help a little.

The first 3000 miles are bad as the pads are breaking in. But then it gets better. The dusting never goes away, but it doesn't happen as quickly. (we have white wheels)

There are pad you can buy that have less dusting, but you'll sacrifice performance.

Thanks for the responses.
Grrrrr, I just might have to live with it, 'upgrading' to lower braking performance does not seem like a good upgrade.
I presently use the tactic of cleaning often and polishing/waxing but it's wearing me out.
Also, just turned over 3400mi., so if it is going to get better, now would be a good time.

Just stop using the brakes so much.

Just a stupid tip.......clean the wheels when they are stone cold. Otherwise they brake dust doesn't come off nearly as easily.

I highly recommend matte black wheels.

mitchman - that is actually a very good tip, to clean them when cool, as much as possible

Please see this post and add your desire to get a mfg. to make a good performance low dust alternative. Thanks Steve

Good point "THE ITCH". You can send your pads to Carbotech (and Porterfield, and probably others) and they will resurface them with the compound of your choice. And it doesn't cost much more than just buying new pads.

But I still say that soft pads cause dust. I don't believe JCW rotors are softer than other rotors. I think that's just crazy talk .

Here's a good thread about brake pads from people with more experience than me: http://sccaforums.com/forums/thread/221088.aspx

XAlfa...

You just made my day! I hadn't been thinking about the brake dust problem until I read it, but next week I'm having the JCW brake kit installed with the black 18" JCW wheels. I had been torn between the other JCW wheels and the black, but for some reason decided to go with black. Now I'm glad I did!

Yes, you will be happy. But...you would be even happier with lighter, smaller wheels and sticky non-runflats. Check out the TDR PR1/1.2 for something similar to the R105 in appearance. 17x7, 16lbs, $160 each.

or "gun metal gray" works well too...

Had same issues with craptastic brakes. When I switched to my new wheels, I waxed them with Meguirers NXT synthetic wax (no carnuba). Now I simply hose the wheels off when I start my car wash and most of the brake dust rinses off. When I'm done washing the car, I use a wash mit (different one just for the wheels) and the leftover soap suds to finish cleaning them. No wheel cleaner is needed. I'm almost at the 3000 mile since my last waxing and will do it again when I rotate the tires.

Get some Hawk HPS pads if they have a JCW size. They have awesome stopping power and almost no dust.

Thank you for being helpful Larry (meant with true sincerity), but please let's not hijack this thread with any further brake pad suggestions unless you know they make them for the JCW cBBK. AFAIK, Carbotech is the only alternative for replacement pads at this time. I'd certainly welcome hearing about any other discoveries though.
