Runflats that are flat...

Hey guys, my driver side front tire has a small puncture somwhere because it only holds are for about 8-12 hours. My sensor came on in my car yesterday. How safe is it to keep on putting air in it until I can fix it tommorow?

Not safe, though Run-flats are prone to bead leaks as well. Mine do.
Drop your wheel and tire in a water bath and see where the leak is coming from, you might be suprised as to its origin.
Bottom line, dump your run-flats and call or go on line with Tire-rack, there are so many great alternatives, and most non-run-flats will reduce your un-sprung weight as well - a very good thing.

I ran on the runflats at 0 psi for over a year...and at high speeds to boot. Not saying that was smart but that gives you an idea of the integrity of the tire.

Doh. I've had this problem where I get into my car on a cold morning, I start driving somewhere, I feel a thud-thud-thud and if I don't have time to check the pressures and add air, a tire sometimes spontaneously goes all the way flat. I've had two flats on the front passenger tire, and two <20psi episodes on the rear passenger tire. The driver side tires have been fine. I have mild curb rash on my passenger side wheels (flame spokes) from my first month of ownership (getting acquainted with the car excuse). The tires are the pirelli euphori run flats that came with the car. I don't see any foreign objects in the tires.

I really want to wear these out before replacing them. Does slime help?

You might be able to get them fixed/replaced FREE!

If your runflats are either Goodyear or Dunlop (owned by Goodyear) you may be able to get it fixed for free or replaced free (minus the pro-rated use) at your local Goodyear tire shop.

I lucked out when I had one punctured by a screw and just happened to bring it in to Goodyear. There was NO CHARGE because they are the manufacturer of the tires and they can apply their own warranty. In my case, they dismounted the tire, patched it properly, remounted the tire, and balanced it.

Good luck.

Had this problem yesterdsay.

I took it to a tire shop. They showed me how it was leaking from the bead . They took off the tire from the rim. They used some kind of sealer on the lip of the rim where the bead seals. They filled up the tire with air and dunked in the water tank. No leaks.
I also needed to fill all tires with air due to the cold weather. I recommend you tell the person fixing your leaky bead to put some sealant on the lip of the rim. This should take care of the problem .

hmmmm...maybe my parallel parking loosened that bead seal. I know a decent tire shop. I'll have to give them a call.

Thumbs down on the slime? Does it throw the tire out of balance the way the 'fix a flat' sludge does?

Stay away from the SLIME!
I'm also trying to just wear out my Pirelli Euphoria Tires, they wear so well they are taking forever, but when they do I'm saying bye-bye!
I'm switching to the Goodyear non-run flats from Tire Rack.

Way better and also weigh better!

There are kits that you can buy and fix it yourself asap, the one I use the most is the one with the plugs.

I've used these kits before (though not on runflats) and take a kit on long trips. However, you will have to have the wheel rebalanced because the weight of the plug will throw off the balance.

Wow - first time I've ever heard anyone suggest that. I've plugged a lot of tires and never rebalanced afterward. I mean, a plug weighs maybe a few grams... maybe less that the weight of the rubber you grind off in one good skid...

OK, so I saw a coupon for a tire rotation, alignment check, etc...blah blah and my car has 3k miles, so I thought a cheap tire rotation wouldn't hurt. I took my car to Merchant's tire, asked for the coupon deal and asked them to do a leak check. Sure enough, one tire has two slow bead leaks. The other has one fast bead leak. From Tuesday to today (Friday), they lost about 10psi.

Merchant's would not unmount and seal the beads for me because they said there was too high of a risk that their machine would cut open the sidewalls. That was a little puzzling to me, but OK. They were nice enough to show me the leaks and they documented it all on my work order. They seemed to think that new tires with only 3k miles on a new car with only 3k miles would qualify for warranty tire replacement or at least warranty remounting/sealing. I was kinda thinking that even before they brought it up. I was planning on taking my car into Mini of Sterling to take care of the groaning LSD and possibly the cold stumble. Maybe they will fix all three problems under warranty?

Just tried to plug a runflat on my '05 MCS. Was going on a trip to Nashville from Atlanta, never had an issue with plugs before. Got almost there when the sensor blinked on the dash. Got to my destination and the plug was gone! Tried to plug again, went 5 miles flat again, Lucked out and found a local tire store with some 215/45/17's in stock (Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2'S) WHAT A DIFFERENCE! A whole different car driving home. I didn't realize how damned loud those runflats were. Bottom line "sh*t can" the runflats.
