Low Manifold pressure - what cause?

I was on my way to work in the fast lane this morning when my engine seemed to "cut-out". It was still running but my throttle seemed to be disabled forcing me to pull across 4 lanes of traffic to the shoulder twixt two merging freeways. Not a comfortable situation to say the least.
I have an OBD reader that kicked out codes for the following: P0107 - Manifold Absolute/Barometric Pressure Cicuit Low input and P1688 - Electronic Throttle Control Monitor Level 2/3 Mass Airflow Calculation Error. I and am wondering whether this is a faulty sensor issue or if it could be caused by a bad ECU map on my UNICHIP? To throw some more curves in (fun things for us MINI owners) I have noticed a slight cutout when cruising around 3200-3400 rpm, more noticable in 2nd or 3rd gear when I hit a bump. It feels like a misfire but no codes are recorded.
Once stopped and restarted everything worked fine. To be safe I disconnected the UNICHIP and made it to work in one piece. I'll need to drive it some more to see if it only happens with the UNICHIP hooked up but if anyone can point me to other potential issues or causes of the low manifold pressure please feel free.

Thanks!

It could be lots of stuff

from the UniChip to the bypass valve not closing fully. If you still get problems with the unichip out, check your by pass valve. Id guess that the diphram mechansim/spring is screwed up, and it's not closing. So you're not getting boost the way your car thinks it should, the drive by wire gets confused, and all hell breaks loose! Anther possiblity is the throttle body connector. I've found that it can actually go on a bit more than needed to get the plug lock to enguage, and I had some issues unitl I pushed it on a bit more.

Good luck!

Matt

Thanks Matt! Lots of things to check.

So when this happened was I put into the famed BMW "Limp" mode? Pretty scary on a busy freeway during rush hour.

Are you using a stock map or was this custom tuned....what size injectors do you have.... how long have you had the Unichip? is this the first time for 0107??

Appreciate the help. It is a standard map from Webb Motorsports for CAI, 15% pulley, and cat-back installed. Had it about 4 months now and have noticed the lag in the 3200-3400 range all along. I did send them an email about it asking if the altitude difference tween Denver and Sacramento could contribute to the lag but have not had a response. I'll let you know if pulling it out helps. No mods beyond what is in my sig. No work on the throttle body, injectors, or head. If pulling the Chip helps the situation I'll porbably pony up the bucks for a custom tuning specific to my car. and yes, this is the first time for the 0107. First time I've seen any codes actually.

To update - The issue is non-existent with the UNICHIP disconnected. It may be a loose connection or wire in the harness since it primarily occured going over bumps. If that is not the issue I'll be checking with a local UNICHIP dealer/tuner to check the mapping that is installed and probably have it custom tuned. I am curious to see what the current mapping looks like since I never seemed to get a large benefit installing it in the first place.
