Conflict

So I have a moral conflict. At the moment I am saving for a car, hoping to buy in a year or two.

My problem is this: I am in love with the MINI and the whole concept of a sporty automobile, but at the same time, I love offroading.

Naturally, I cannot take a MINI offroading, nor can I take a Wrangler or FJ Crusier to the autocross track.

So, I open this up to you lucky few that own MINIs. Any thoughts?

Sure... Have your cake and eat it to!

Buy a new or lightly used Mini for everyday driving, and then by a beater POS 4WD to take off-road...

Seriously, how often do you plan on off-roading? If that's more of a weekend sport, pick up an older used Jeep or other SUV and spend more $$ on the Mini for everyday driving.

I'd say get the MINI and tear up asphalt instead...I've done "off roading" courtesy of the US Army and tearing up asphalt is definitely much, much more fun.

Great compromise. Consider how much time you're going to be spending in a daily driver vs. an off-road vehicle. Buddy of mine has a beater Jeep that he takes off road, hunting, etc. and he's happier than a hog in mud.

Don't tell Paddy Hopkirk you can't drive a MINI/Mini off road.

What!! You can't take a Mini of a paved road? So much for me and my 3 miles of dirt road/driveway. Dang it is a good thing I don't have one yet. ;D

Well first, thats not a moral conflict Its a dilemma

Simple, what gets the heart pumping? The Rubicon Trail or a parking lot with cones?

You will know the answer ...

Black Bear pass for me. I've done it in my departed 4x4. Now I'll rent one next time I go.

Very cool mind you, but still funny!

Seriously, is this your daily driver? Or more of a weekend-er? This is easily one of top 5 Mini's I've seen...

x2 on getting a "good" Mini and a beater 4x4.

Interestingly, 4x4's and Minis are both cash-hogs from the mod standpoint, and if you hit the shift key while typing "4x4" you'll know what I mean...

Check out www.discoweb.org, you can be "in" a pretty interesting offroad community with similar eccentricity to the Mini for well under $10k... and they have enough towing capacity to haul a Mini on a trailer...
