MINI sales figures updated... interesting changes

Well, it looks like the Cooper hardtop is starting to once again eclipse the Cooper S hardtop in sales... Since August '06, Cooper hardtop sales have been higher than the S, which took over in '05...

Wonder why? Maybe gas prices?
(I love my Cooper and I KNOW that it's great, haha)
but I thought the S was always more popular for some reason...

Yup. Sales numbers lag behind real time pricing. At $3.20/gallon, I bet lots of ppl were thinking about mileage ... Now at $2 in many place, watch it go the other way.

It just reflects life

Interesting figures. But they also show sales for the JCW GP version, as well as a larger increase of the MCS convertible compared to the MC convertible. I don't think more people are buying the MC instead of the MCS - just that some of the MCS potential buyers are buying convertibles or the JCW GP version.

Well could be true, but the MC used to rule 02-04, so i'm being optimistic!

I think it's because the new Mini buyers just want a Mini to be seen in and be cool. They don't want to spend the money on the S because they have never owned a sports car. There is a big difference in the performance! And I'm a woman driver....I'm not speed racer but I wouldn't drive a Mini without the S!

I'm so sick of S owners assuming that us Cooper owners aren't into performance. I've had a WRX and a Porche. I had my license suspended for speeding when I was 21 (not a good thing to do kids). I've been into cars since before I could ride a bike. Sure, the Cooper doesn't go as fast in a straigt line, but it is still a very fast and fun car. The price difference is negligable. I just don't like supercharged engines; thats me. The extra 2k is going into mods. Honestly, if I just wanted a fast car, I could have bought a Neon.
Most of us bought the Cooper for the same reasons you S owners bought the S. We like it better.

I am amazed at those numbers. Always assumed (ya you know what that means) the MCS outsold the MC by, at least, 4 to 1. While my own car is a MCS, no doubt the MC is a fun car.

It is disapointing to occasionally see MC owners vs. MCS owners. Come on people, we're all part of a small MINI community.
