Wilwood install completed!

Well...I finished up my Wilwood install earlier today. I ended up buying the 13x.81 for a track day coming up in Nov. Once I understood how everything went on, it was a piece of cake. After you spend a few hours on 1 side, the other side can be done in 30mins.

MANY MANY thanks to Todd at TCE for his help. I couldn't be happier with the fit and finish.

Gary

Very nice, I would love to have this mod even for just the street. People dont seem to see me in the Mini and turn in front of me everyday. Can you get them in crossed drilled instead of slotted?

Plain.
Slotted.
Drilled.
Drilled and slotted.

It's up to you. "Standard" is slotted and zinc plated. You'll burn off (and need to) the zinc in a matter of miles but it's part of the package.

.... TCE is the place for brakes, no doubt.

My though.... drill for street, never for the track. Slotted is the way to go anyway.

Why not drill for the track? Extreme heat = cracking?

Mini Hype,

Which pads did you go with? I graduated from the Q, BP10's and am now using the BP20 pads. The BP20's have turned out to be really good on the street and match up well with the Hawk pads on the rear. Good initial bite, less dust than stock and quiet.

By the way, which track are you going to?

MINI kits start at $850 and go up from there.
http://www.tceperformanceproducts.co...s.pl?record=13

The above drilled kit would be a "Plus 4" kit with option rotor finish. $1295 + $135, $1430.

suprisingly i dont think the BP 10s are as good... i had the Q on the car and ran the BP10 the entire season... but am a bit disappointed... and it likes to make noise when i go from the A pad back to the street pad.... weird...

I'm running the BP10's on the street, but have BP20's for the track. I'll swap them out the night I head to the track. We're doing another track day at Streets of Willow, with Redline Track Events. Are you in the SoCal area? If so...sign up. We need some more mini's out there. I have a buddy that comes with me to all of the events - we usually do 4 or 5 events a year.

I am in West LA and am going to Willow the 1st week in November. I am not too familiar with Redline but will have to check it out sometime.

I installed a kit here not long ago and we went straight to the BP20 pads as the customer planned on some track use in a matter of a day or two. I was very satisfied with the feel and response of the 20s on the street and their "ramped up" Cf was controllable and useable in the time I driove the car. I also found the 20 (like the more hard core track compounds) did a better job of rotor wiping to get rid of the zinc without gumming up as I've seen with other compounds.

Jtrem,
The install wasn't bad at all. If you've done brake jobs in the past...it really shouldn't be too difficult.

Mini Pete,
Go to redlinetrackevents.com and sign up for the Nov 17 SOW event. I'll be there and a buddy that has a Mini as well.

Todd,
That was my brother's car you did the install on. He had a lot of success with the BP20's at the track. He and my dad both fell in love with the brakes, and quickly realized they could out brake most people there. We're both VERY pleased with the brakes!!! Thanks for taking care of us...

Gary

Thanks for the heads up on the SOW event. Unfortunately, I will be out of town but I will be sure to look into future events.

Call Todd at TCE Performance. He is the resident guru on brakes for the MINI.

You'll have to start by considering new wheels. The S Lites won't clear BBKs without some use of wheel spacer and stud conversions.

The yellow is holding up great! He absolutely loves them...says it's been the BEST mod he's done on the car. I'm sure I'll feel the same after the 17th.

Mini Pete,
Stay in touch...maybe we can meet up at the next track event we do.

I love to jump on this bandwagon! My TCE/Wilwood front and rear kit is the best mod I ever did on my car! I'd give up pulleys and chips and headers but keep the brakes if I had to. It was a 1-day install, and I've never looked back (other than to see those who try to out-brake me...they always have to drop back eventually). And the bling factor is totally a freebie with these brakes--just like icing on a donut! Todd's the man, no doubt.
You do have a limited set of wheels to choose from though if you want 17"s and no spacers with 13" rotors--woohoo.

Todd,
Is this true of the 11.75 kit as well? I use my s lites as winter rims.

While the install may seem hard...

it's a piece of cake! Bleeding the brakes is the part that takes the most time....

Todds stuff seems to be the most cost effective out there. But before everyone spends lots of $ on brakes, just make sure you need them. For street work, there are a bunch of lower cost improvements to the system that will make it much, much better. But for track and AutoX, upgrade away and have fun with it!

But it is amazing just how fast you can stop with a nice brake kit....

Matt
