How have you guys added SIRIUS to stock H/K systems?

I have a 2003 MC with the H/K upgrade.

I'm struggling to figure out if there's an elegant way to add Sirius to the system.

What methods have you guys used?

Thanks very much. I'm searching the forum as well.

The most "elegant" is the OEM SIRIUS receiver, which gets placed in the side pocket of your boot, and becomes another Mode option on your head unit, just like CD, AM/FM, Aux input, etc.

However, it's much more expensive than simply getting an aftermarket unit and plugging it in.

I have the OEM solution and I'm very happy with it, but your needs may vary!

I visited a couple of local big-box electronics stores, and they were confused. They were only aware of OEM units for GM, Kenwood, and a couple of other brands of radios. Is there a BMW version? Or is it only available via a Mini dealer?

I should add a little more info.

I have the single CD player in the dash, not the multi-disc changer, but do have the Harmon Kardon audio upgrade.

I'm definitely open to using a non-OEM model.

Does this Blitzsafe thing work for me, even if I don't own a CD changer in the back of my car? Was my Mini prewired for a changer, even if I didn't have one?

I would prefer Sirius, but would do XM if that were my only option.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

It's a BMW/MINI part number, so it should be orderable from any place that can order official BMW/MINI parts, not just from dealers. Actually if you want the whole shebang, I think it's 3 part numbers (receiver, antenna, install kit), and a 4th if you have the H/K, since you then have to install the receiver on the driver's side, not the passenger side... and there's a special cable to run over to the other side.

Note that the GM solutions are XM, not SIRIUS.

I have Sirius in my '05 MCS. I used the AUX input on the back of the OEM CD player. I just made a metal bracket that actually mounts behind the glovebox door down the left side of the glovebod insert itself. It sticks out beween the glovebox and the glovebox door and my Sirius receiver mounts to that. Works great!

I also have the single CD player in mine. I bought the interface unit and Serius tuner as a package from this site:http://www.soundgate.com/index.php?r...usereferrer=1& It was an easy plug-&-play install with instructions. I can change the channels from my steering wheel. The only drawback, I can't get the artist name or song title on display. I would still call the Soundgate people to make sure this is the right package. Hope this helps.

I have MINI Sirius and HK. It was a great investment. My plug and play aftermarket kit looked horrible with all the wires and plugs, and wasn't compatable with the optional AUX-Input. Great to hear you folks have added it in other ways as well.
