Drink cup holder -- how to remove?

My dealer said that all I have to do is remove 2 screws and it will come off...well...not!

I think the thing is glued on...anyone else out there with any insight?

Cindy

The double side tape holds it on after the screws are out, if it's holding too much try a little heat from a hair dryer and then pull again.

Yep - a good pull with rip it out with damage typically only to the tape...
And worst case you mangle that crime-against-nature cupholder, which would be a GOOD thing IMHO.... Ripped mine out last week and added two MiniFini cupholders which I ADORE...

Sounds like you installed two, do they rotate out of the way when not needed?

Yes the MINI-Fini ones rotate out of the way.

Drink cup holder -- how to remove?

I would die without my cup holder. I use it every day.

I use a smaller tumbler for my coffee. That way, it fits in the smaller cup holder. It is worth having less coffee to not have that fugly atrocity in my MINI.

We removed ours, then realized that it was quite useful. You DON'T need to remove any screws. Just pull the plastic cap off the bottom of the cup where it attaches, and slide the holder out of it's bracket.

I just removed mine from my GP. After removing the screws I applied steady pressure to one side and eventually the tape started to let go a little at a time. After the holder came off you are lift with a little resedue from the double sided tape. It was easily removable with your thumb as if you were rolling up the edge. Hope that helps Steve

I detached the cupholder, but didn't take the bracket off. I thought that if I really want it, sometime in the future, I can put it back on. It is super ugly though.

Ugly yes, but it holds a bottle of wine perfectly! Just right for those trips to a party or dinner and you don't want a bottle rolling around on the seat or floor!

Please email me if you want to sell your cupholder. Also, provide the color.

Thanks,

My 03' MC came with a MiniFini cupholder. Works great, looks good...I wouldn't think about removing it.

Hey...I like how you think! But, the ugly cup holder is too small for a magnum!

I've found the thing far to useful to permently remove. Just pull down on the bottom of the holder shaft, and away from the bracket. Then slide it up out of the top. Don't lose the small plastic cap on the bottom of the shaft. If you find you want it back, reinstall it easily.

Someone needs to rely this terrible problem to MINIUSA right away! Afterall, I don't want to be teased by my friends on New Year's Eve when I show up with some wimpy 750 ml bottle of Prosecca because my MINI couldn't hold a magnum!

I think I'm in the minority that kind of likes it... I don't LOVE it, but I don't hate it either... I find it useful for my jamba juices

I use the rear cupholder to hold wine on the way to a party or something... fits perfectly!

I hate the looks of the cupholder, too. But I removed the top rubber, put the base of my iPod on the bottom rubber, and hooked the whole shebang into my Aux port. It makes a great iPod location: easy to see the track name with just a quick glance, plus the holder without the top rubber makes the iPod look like it's in its own roll cage.
