Front Grille Question

I have just recently picked up a 2004 MCS, it's red with white stripes on the bonet. Now it has the regular body color grill in the front with the chrome trim, I was wondering if I could swap that for the black grill I sometimes see around and if so where can I get one.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Viper, you can either change the whole grille (look at some of the vendors for a Aero Grille or try ebay), or you can black out the red slats with vinyl (some have even use electrical tape). You can do a search here on NAM for some threads about this.

I removed the slats on my cooper and then bought a black grille that sticks on over the old one with double-sided tape. It is holding up well. I got it off of eBay from a retailer there.

Good luck with the grille!

I used black-out tape on my grille and I'm pleased with the way it came out. It was relatively easy. And if you don't like it, it's easy enough to restore back to the original color by just removing the tape.

You can find pics and instructions in this thread:

Thanks guys, those are awesome suggestions and your convertible looks great, I'll probably try that as a temporary solution, but I just love the way the other grill looks so hopefully I can find it somewhere, I was looking on ebay and couldn't seem to find anything.

Oh BTW what kind of tape did you use on that?

you can use any grill from 02-06..

You can buy the peices and get them painted....will cost around $100 +

or

what I did, was check around dealerships and see if they have taken a grill of of a black car to put on a aero kit ( which comes with a new grill )... some of the dealer will keep the grills.... I got one for $20...

Be careful when you take off the grill,,, use a socket driver. And while unscrewing, have a small screw driver under the nut prying upwards.......when you take the first one, you will understand why..

I used Trimbrite Blackout Tape which I bought from PepBoys for $5.99. It is 1 3/8" x20' which is the perfect size for the slats. (You can also find it on the internet if you do a google search.)

See post #14 from the above thread for detailed instructions.

You guys are awesome, I found an aero grill at mini mania and it's exactly what I was looking for, I just didn't know what it was called, and I'm gonna try that black out tape aswell.

Thanks a lot.

Hey guys, I ordered the Aero Grille from Mini Mania and I chose Fedex ground as my shipping option, but they couldn't calculate the shipping costs for some reason, does this usually happen and can I trust that the shipping won't be astronomical from these people.

Any feed back about Minimania would be appreciated.

Good folks to deal with. Fast, fair and reasonable. Rest easy, friend.

Thanks, that's good to hear, I've never really ordered anything online before so it's good to hear reassuring thoughts!
