My mini won't roll down windows with the key?
I have tried and tried and tried and have finally given up. I can't for the life me get my new 06 Mini S to roll down the windows and open the sunrood with the key. I have read the manual over and over and I am following the directions, but it won't do it. Do I need to somehow activate this before it will work?? Also I can't get the garage door opener to work either. I have tried and tried to program the button, but nothing happens. Anyone have a clue as to how I can get these to work before I go to the dealer for some help??
Thanks Ken

You need to have the dealer program your key to roll down the windows and open sunroof. They can take care of it for you and I would imagine should be free of charge. The garage door feature is only included in the Homelink system, if you have that I am not sure how to get it coded to yuor garage door opening system but I am sure the dealer would know if someone here cant help you witht that.

The window down thing took me forever, too.
I think you have to press it 3 times, but do it rather exaggeratedly, and from fairly close range. Like, "PREEEESSSSSSS <pause> PRESSSSSSSSSS <pause> PRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSS"
You have to hold in the 3rd time (or whenever the last time is) for a LONG time. Then they start to go down. And if you take your finger off the button, you have to start over.
Although as Be4tnut said, I think the car does have to be programmed for it.
Good Luck.

yup, try it again. after about 4 seconds on the third push they should open. If they don't then your MINI hasn't been programmed to do it. They don't come from the factory with that option enabled anymore. You have to special request it unless the dealer automatically program all incoming cars to do it.

Mine is one long push also and regarding the HomeLink, the programming instructions didn't work, I had to do trial and error to get it programmed.

As far as the garage door opener, all new garage door openers are now revolving code - so if your opener is less than a few years old, the programming of the car is more complicated. You need a second person to push a button on the garage door opener itself, then someone in the car to push the remote on the car (3 times I think) within 30 seconds. That starts the constantly revolving code on the car to match the opener.
There are instructions, almost as a sideline, in the manual.

I have an 02MCS that I bought used. I could always close the car up by turning the key to the right, but could never open both windows and the sunroof by turning the key to the left.
The last time I brought the car in for service, I requested that the opening-up feature be turned on, but only by manually turning the key to the left while inserted in the door lock. I asked if this was possible and it should be cause I can open everything this way.
I precisely stated... "NOT with the remote button"! This is a bad idea cause you can accidently open your car will unwittingly pushing the remote button while your keys are in your pocket or purse.
And like a big dumby, I don't check it untill I get home...50 miles later. Sure enough, They programed (free of charge) the remote button and not the door lock to open everything up.
You have to very careful with this feature, cause if the button is accidently pressed once, the driver's side door is unlocked, pressed twice, the passenger door and hatch is unlocked, pressed a third time and both windows and the sunroof are partcially opened and then you better hope it does'nt rain...It could and has happend.

when I had the factory alarm installed/activated by the dealer they somehow disabled the window-down feature. Something like that might have happened to yours before you got your car, go back to the dealership...

Thanks for all the replies. I will be taking it back to the dealer later on this week for them to make it work as I want that feature on.
As far as the whole garage door opener part I have the convience package which I thought that meant that I can program the three buttons on the review mirrir to work the garage door. I guess I will keep playing around with that, as I really want that to work.
Thanks everyone,
Ken

The instructions in the manual did not work on my car. I was able to use common sense and trial and error and figure it out.
Lets say the wife and I drive 150mls to visit the kids/grandkids,(on a rainy day) and I toss my keys on the kitchen counter incase Grandma needs to drive the MINI to the grocery store while Grandpa takes a nap. Now alongs comes Grandson who picks-up the keys and starts pushing buttons, cause that's what toddlers are experts at...pushing buttons...never the right buttons...but they are still experts at it.
Like I've stated...It can and has happend!

My windows and convertible top don't go down with the key so I went to the dealership Mini of Dallas and request my key to be programed with this option since they forgot to do it when I took delivery of my MC '06 last December. They said 'sure no problem' it will be $60.00

I just found out that my 2nd key doesn't lock the car via remote. None of the keys will roll the windows down when they are turned to the left. I am pissed! Personally, when I purchase a car, and I make request in writing as to what options should be programmed. I expect it to be done. I will definitely say that I am disappointed with the service part of my purchase. How hard is it to follow instructions?
so I decided to live without it. I am not cool like the rest of you
As stated previously in this thread, you should go to www.homelink.com to find out how to program your universal garage door opener (UGDO). I can only imagine that MINIusa had no choice but to put generic pairing instructions in the owner's manual because there are literally hundreds of different garage door opener manufacturers...some with rolling code technology and some without.
On the homelink.com website, select the "training" menu and be prepared to input your garage door opener manufacturer name and model #. The site will give you specific instructions. Sometimes it may take two people to pair the UGDO...one person in the car pushing a button and another on a ladder in the garage flipping a "learn" switch on the garage door console.
My garage and neighborhood gate both have the rolling codes and the UGDO still works like a charm for both opening and closing.
That should do it, good luck.

They said that I should've requested to be programmed when I got the car, I was like excuse me how am I supposed to know about it if my MA never talk about the option and I didn't have the owners manual yet, it was after I saw a couple of my Mini peeps do it at a Happy Hour and then after I red the manual that I found out this can be done...still they wanted to charge me

You should call Mini USA. The dealer was supposed to go over the available options with you prior to delivery to make sure that everything was the way you wanted it to be. The fact that they didn't do that puts them at fault. You are in the right and they absolutely should not be charging you for this. But don't expect them to roll over and do it without a fight. As they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Thanks for the advice

Everytime I TRY to roll down the windows it doesn't work, but when I don't want it to it works. Also I think only one key does it, I dunno. AND this is my second vehicle with Homelink and I still can't program it! Blah.
Thanks everyone for the comments. Thanks rare1 for that link. I will try to program the car this weekend when I have more time to mess with it. I plan on going to the dealer sometime this week if I have time for them to program my keys for the windows. I will let you know if they try to charge me or not. I don't think that they would as they have been great, but you never know.
Thanks Ken
