Stressed Out Over Checkers For Roof :(

So I dropped my Cooper off at the dealership for its first oil change on Wednesday, and I figured while it was there why not go ahead and just have them do the checkers for my whole roof. And the rep let me know that it will be 330+tax and I will be able to pick it up on Friday.

Now I get a call back from him stating that Mini doesnt make full roof checker decals for Mini's with sunroofs, and I will only be able to have a decal that covered just the sunroof part.

Im so disappointed, becuase I was really excited about the checkers and wanted to surprise everyone with it. I really dont want just a decal on the sunroof part only!

Now I dont know how to go about getting the full roof checkers for my Mini. I see people around with full roof decals that have sunroofs.

Does anyone know what my other options would be and how much it would cost. I live in Sacramento, is there any places near me that can accomodate my simple request?? :impatient

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Warm Regards,

------

Two vendors come to mind.......www.cooperflags.com and http://aestheticreations.net/ Both of these vendors are VERY good and a joy to do business with.

Yes and most if not all aftermarket makers of these graphics can cover the entire roof as desired

That's pretty cool.

Question: Once installed is there damage to the original paint when the vinyl is removed?

I would like to find a sun roof decal for the San Jose Sharks and don't want to worry about the paint if I decide to remove it at a later date.

I can personally atest to the quality of www.cooperflags.com products as I purchased a custom job from them. I had it installed professionally by Decal Applicators, LLC out of Pleasanton California (I've been told that the dealership will, generally, do poor job of installation). I don't have a sunroof, but I know they have multi piece decals for your roof (actually its one piece cut-to-fit when installed). See below for an example of what I have.....

I saw some cooper flags at a dealership near me on minis and the quality of the colors did not seem that high.

Are you really sure that you want the decal covering the entire roof? I have two pictures of my wife's MCS in my gallery that show the dealer installed checkers on the sunroof. It's high quality and looks great plus it really cuts down on the sun light coming through the sun roof. Just a thought.

Chack a local sign shop!

IIRC, Moss used to carry the perforated vinyl for the sunroof cars

You can also talk to a (good) local sign shop - the better ones would be able to hook you up nicely since most of them carry perforated vinyl for use on delivery van windows, etc... You can also have them make one up with solid vinyl squares in white, using the sunroof's natural dark tint as the "dark", only problem would be seeing checkerboards through the sunroof from the inside (which may be pretty cool, actually).

Thanks Rob, I gave Just Tints a call and I spoke with a guy there and he was supposed to have called me back by noon with quotes for full roof and just for the sunroof. So I'll probably give him a call back soon and in the meantime call around for other quotes.

I was also wondering, what do you guys think is better. The full roof decal or just the sunroof decal??

The average price for install? Better to get the decal on my own or to have the tint place order it themselves through their own vendors?

Anything else I should keep my eye out for??

- Thanks.

If you pay more that $50-$75 for just a sunroof decal insall then your being taken for a ride. Its an easy install...a good 30 - 40 minutes. Cooperflags did a custom flag for me and the quality is top notch.

Anyone know of a good tint shop in the Sunnyvale CA area? Also looking for a place to order a custom sun roof decal of the San Jose Sharks Emblem.

someone should be able to design one for you from the logo. Personally I had a great experience with cooperflags and would definitely go with them again. Talk to Ed and see what he says.

SO! The guy from Just Tint that I was dealing with in Sacramento, I believe his name is Chris, was supposed to call me back over a week ago with a date that I can bring my Cooper in for install. He said that he has already contacted the guy that would be designing the decal, even got the sizes of the checkers that I wanted, and said he would let me know the soonest date I can bring my car in for installation after he called the decal guy and gave him the green light.

But thats over a week ago. Ive tried several times to contact him and left him several messages and he has not contacted me back. Do you think he's avoiding me and just doesnt want to go through with the project??? ? Does that mean I have to find another shop. Grrr.. . so frustrating.

Ok OK. So the Just Tint guy I'm pretty sure just flaked out on the job. 3 weeks and no word from him.

So I was curious. Exactly how hard is it to install a roof decal if I just purchase the full roof decal w/sunroof perf myself??

Whats the difficulty rating? Any testimonials?? :-)

My advice is to call Mike at aestheticreations.net He is a super nice guy. He can make your perfed checkerd roof vinyl and advise you on the difficulty of a self-install. Pluse, he does installations at MINI events all across the U.S. Perhaps you could go to one and have the GURU install it personally.

CALL MIKE!

"Don't try this at home".
If you have never done vinyl installs before, please don't experiment on your MINI!
You will end up with wrinkles, bubbles and a sour taste.
For your own sanity, please continue to call around until you find a pro you can work with.
