2 Questions about 16" wheels for 06 MCS

I am getting closer to ordering a MCS. The stock wheels that come on the 06 MCS are the 16” V-spokes. I am thinking of ordering the R90 16” wheels & caps for $771.00. My dealer will then switch the tires from the V-spokes for $135.00. Then I will have 4 V-spokes to Keep or sell.

2 questions:

-Is $771.00 a reasonable price for these wheels? Can I do much better in the after market for wheels that have a similar cool look? Here is a link to a picture of the wheels(thanks to billboard).

-Is there a market for the 4 V-spokes if I want to sell them?

Thanks for reading

Wheels are incredibly personal. For the same $900 you could have a set of wheels and tires delivered from edge racing. This would give you winter (current) and summer - new ones, or run flats for long trips and HP none-run-flats for zipping around town.

Or you could order soomething cool and then sell your current wheel/tire combos and get a pile of the cash back.

Or any other combination ????

Thanks MaxN

I just went to edgeracing.com and they have some nice bundles, as they call them, for less than $900. I see what you mean. It looks like for less than $900 I could get wheels and tires.

Where do you live? Do you need winter wheels? If so then you can use the X-lytes with snow tires. Keep the R90 16" rims with runflats.

$771 is OK for the R90s. You can also join the BMWCCA or MINI club in your area if they offer a discount for parts purchases- usually 15% off the normal price. If you know a sales person you can get them to help you purchase the R90 wheels at their discounted price- just be friendly.

Generally you have many options for 16" wheels. Go shopping at tirerack.com. Give alex@tirerack.com an email about any questions you have. Full sets of wheels run from $450 to $600+

X-lyte wheels are good. They are more in demand in areas that have lots of MINIs or areas that have lots of racing MINIs. Stock class SCCA autocross racing requires use of rims that are stock sized- the X-lytes are the easiest to find and cheapest stock rim. If you get white finished X-lytes those are in high demand since white wheels are hard to find.

You can sell the wheels via ebay.com or in your local area via the MINI club or BMW club.

Thanks minihune

I live in Davis, CA. No snow. Thanks for the reply. You wrote about the X-lytes, but I will be getting the stock 16 " V-spokes on the MCS that will be shipped from the UK. So, I didn't follow that part. But I suppose that someone might want my 16" v-spokes wheels for their snow tires just like you suggested. Thanks again for the ideas.

Edit- sorry, you are right, the 16" V-spokes are called X-lytes. R84 X-lite (aka Monza, V-spoke) ET50 17.6lb (8.0kg) [silver, white], as a matter of fact.

Selling your wheels

Selling your wheels shouldn't be too hard. I just recently saw a Ebay auction for a set of V-spokes that sold for $900 not including shipping. Some people on this forum would say that that is high and that the normal range for selling these wheels and tires is $500-600, but I have been keeping track of these wheels and tires on eBay and they are selling for $700-900 plus shipping. If you put the wheels and tires for sale on this forum for $500, you'll get a quick sale.
