Fog Lamp

I noticed this morning that one of my fog lamps was not working. The dealer wants $22.75 for a replacement. Any other options? I'm talking about the stock one in the bumper, not add ons.

Thanks.

Replace it yourself, I am sure you can get the bulb at NAPA or AutoZone.

If you can not do the work then it is only $22.75.

I think $23 bucks for a maybe $5 bulb is about right from a dealership. And remember that they will probably charge you for labor too LOL

Removing the bumper is very easy. Just do a search for instructions.

I'd gladly pay that to avoid removing the bumper (which is not difficult, but not worth it to me for that price). I'd replace both bulbs regardless of whether they do the work or you DIY.

Fog Lamp

Thanks for the replies, but I guess what I'm asking is, does anybody know a part number (Oshram, GE, Sylvania). It looks like it can be changed from the wheel well.

No part number for you........... but you are correct; you replace it through the wheel well. If you pull the bumper the fogs stay on the car, only the turn and running/parking lights are bumper mounted.

I'd strongly recommend you get some (10 ea) of the plastic screw-clips as they can be mangled / stripped when you remove them.

The bulbs are H11s. See http://www.rallylights.com/hella/H11.asp $12 for Hellas each.

$23 is not bad if you include the labor.

Fogs

Thanks, that's the answer I was looking for. The $23 price the dealer quoted was for the bulb only.

Having spare parts on hand is always a good idea!

I think you can take loose the lower screw for the inner fender (actually in the bottom of the bumper cover) and peel it back enough to reach the bulb. That way you can leave the other dozen of the easily strippable screw-clips in place.

Chows says H11, I think they're H7 bulbs. I also think that there was a change sometime during production. Check your owners manual...maybe the bulb is listed there.

HERE IS A VERY GOOD TECH TIP

ALWAYS take a new halogen bulb out of its packaging and clean it with a fresh paper towel and alcohol. Once it is cleaned, handle it ONLY by the metal base. If you touch the glass, wipe it with alcohol again before installing it. The instructions will caution you against touching the bulb, but you don't really know if someone may have touched it at the factory before it was placed in it's package. Do it right, and it'll last a lot longer.

PS My next post will put me into 5th Gear!
