Euro Parcel Shelf Install Help Pleae
I picked up my 2006 MCS yesterday and after some driving and a good waxing, I went to install the euro parcel shelf. I followed the instructions and after pulling down the existing pannel, I tried to lift the pannel off the hinges as instructed. The problem I ran into was there seemed to be three hinges, on the pannel, and I was able to remove the two on the outer edges, but it seemed to be hung up on the middle. Can some one tell me how to remove the center support on the existing pannel. Thank you
I didn't have a problem with that, hmmm. How about hitting the underside of that area? I do remember that the hinges are basically a little tab with a very shallow hook-like bump on the end. You probably are still hung up by that bump. Maybe try getting in there with a flat screwdriver and see if you can pry it loose. not much help I'm afraid. Good Luck.
The middle hinge is actually inverted (opposite) to the outside ones. The outside ones go under the support, while the middle hinge goes above the support (you might not understand unless you actually see it). You just need to play with it a little and add some force and it will release.
I had alot more trouble getting those darn screws to align with the blue nylon inserts provided. That was a PITA. This thing looks seamless and adds much needed ""storage" room. I love it!

Agree with MiniMacPr about using a little force along with some movement up and down as you try to free that middle pivot hinge. Also, if you run into trouble with the installation do a search here on NAM. Many of us either had the dreaded screws not lining up problem or found that the shelf did not slide into place as instructed, but needed other methods of persuation. It's a great mod though...very practical.
Thanks for the help, I got it installed.
I took your advice and used a little more force, and with the knowledge that the center support was the opposite of the side, it came right out, with a little pressure. I had to play with it to get it in place, and then I had to fight with the screws lining up, but I finally got it in and secure. Thank you for all the help.
I just did mine 10 minutes ago - I had to yank really hard but the whole thing came off in one fell swoop, taking a fingernail with it in the processs.
I highly recommend taping down the little screw clips before trying to put it in. I was being all "nah, I can do it without it" but I ended up having to pull it back out, tape the clips down, and put it back in and it was fine.

Moss Motors have them at $90 plus shipping(at least that's what they told me) Apparently they have a history of taking orders then placing them on backorder. They said they had to "assemble" them before shipping.I couldn't find them any place else.
Meanwhile, another board member (in Alaska) ordered his a few hours before me, and has already received the shelf, so I figure I'm probably out of luck.
I guess I'll see if anyone has them at ANY price, and just bite the bullet.

BTW, if you go to the dealer they can print off the parts page for either of the two Euro shelves, including a parts list so you don't have to work blind. Actually, there's a page on the web that has all the parts manuals, can't recall what it is and can't find it in my favorites now :-(
I've done both sides and the passenger side was the trickier, getting the glovebox A/C hose into the baffle on the shelf took some patience.
They're both great. I don't miss the glovebox at all, and it gives the passenger a bit more knee space if you're willing to part with it.

It's a moderately popular option (at least among NAM readers!), but it violates some goofy (IMO) US safety regulation[edit: see post above!
]. From what I understand, MINIUSA was selling them sort of on the down-low (ie, it was never advertised as an option, most who know about it in the US has been word-of-mouth) to those who wanted it, but apparently they were 'found out'. So, no more shelf for the US.
In parts of Europe though, it continues to be a standard feature. As such, it will be possible to order one through a business overseas that is willing to ship to the US.
