Is this a scam???
I'm sure this is a scam, but I just wanted to make sure. This guy is selling a 2005 MCS JCW for $12,999. It has 16,025 miles on it. I ran CARFAX and as of 6/21/2006 it is registered in Massachusetts. I found it in Autotrader in the San Jose, CA area. He's always slow to respond and he says hes been deployed to Poland for this month. He said to use www.escrow.com for the money transfer. I'm just wondering why he's selling it in San Jose,CA if its regisitered in Massachusetts. Is it a scam???

Yes it is absolutely a scam. Deployed to Poland? BS. There have been a lot of these scams coming off, and it's usually on Craigslist.
Tell him you want to actually see the car. If it's somewhere far, say you have a friend or relatives there that will look at it. See what happens.

When you list on Craigslist they tell you specifically to not work with anyone that's not local, and escrow services are almost aways a tell tale sign of a scam.
When I listed my Cooper, just like they said I would, I received "inquires" almost immediately from people in foreign countries wanting to use Escrow services, or have me pay them while they used a wire service to pay me extra to cover fees, etc... yada yada yada

Its a scam. Don't fall for it. When buying my classic in Feb, I ran into many of these. "living" somewhere in the states, "just" transfered to another country, can "ship" the car for cheap cause they work for a shipping company. If you get in contact with them I sure the wife is expecting, and they just moved and just don't have enough money for the car anymore....
The car is in the states, and they will mail the keys to you when they get the money.
If its thru ebay I've even seen them duplicate the ebay pages down to every detail. Except they ask for a wire transfer. They are usually very helpful in getting you directions to the closest western union.
If it sound to good to be true, than it probably is...... Be careful.

It does sound to good to be true. I emailed and called the guy asking if I could see the car in person. No response in a while now.....

+1, unless they are willing to show car and person in same place without changing where they claim to be, it usually is. .
And if it is an 05 JCW with 16k going for $12k has something so wrong with it that if its not a scam you're going to wish it was
What a bunch of suspicious people!
Just because the guys in Poland DOES NOT mean he's a crook
It could be a completely legitimate deal.
YOU have no idea why he's selling and it is PRESUMPTIOUS to think otherwise!

Geezzzzz. How the hell is anybody gonna sell you guys a bridge I got for sale if your all so suspicious???????:impatient

If I can see it in person, and I don't have to wire you money, then I may buy your bridge.....

But won't it block my headlights and screw up the handling? Besides pulling the E-brake and spinning around corners is more fun (that and seeing all the eyes go wide as people think I've lost control)
$5 shipped, I'll take dilivery tomorrow cash upon delivery
I actually have a co-worker who is looking into this and has been in comunication with the owner. The exchange is going through a third party business mentioned in the first post who holds the title to the car. Can't remember all of the details but I don't think the owner gets funds until the car is delivered.
BTW, if someone can confirm this is a scam with authority and proof I would definately take that info to my co-worker and tell him to back out. I think at this point someone needs to provide proof or feedback on the company handling the transaction.
But if it falls through let us know as well.
I'd bet on no deal

That maybe but it could be avoided if someone has experience or has heard of the company involved and can give feedback.
Hey, maybe this is like the old urban legends where an angry spouse sells a sportscar for an outrageously low price as part of revenge for an affair or divorce!
I'm going to side with those who think it's a scam. If it's not, however, who's going to spring for the therapy the rest of us will need for not making this deal?!!??
