Gear Ratio 02

I am sure the answer to this question is here but I could not find it...the 02's are geared differently than the later models (MCS), true? I drove a 05 and at least through 1st and 2nd the gears seemed significantly shorter than mine. I have heard this has something to do with top speed, ie, the early models theoretically could go 16x, but the later models are geared so that 6 tops out at 135.

go to mini2.com and read the FAQ. All the info is there with top speeds in each gear.

BTW, with taller gearing, the 02 - 04s have theoretically higher top speed but slower acceleration. However, it all depends upon HP (which is lower), aerodynamics, and whether or not there is really a "speed limiter" (which is debatable).
