2nd Annual REME Shasta Run
2nd Annual REME Shasta Run
To ALL,
Due to some scheduling conflicts, the date for this event has been moved to June 15, 16, 17, 2007. Please mark or change your calendar.
We plan to set up our "base camp" in the Town of Mt. Shasta and stay at the Best Western Tree House, same as last year.
Some of our runs will include a tour of the Shasta Dam, a visit to Castle Crags, many great twisty mountain roads. There are a bunch of activities we are looking into. Hope we can outdo last year.
Hope you can make it. This should be a blast and a bit cooler than last year.

snmc too
I know of 4 minis going this year for sure. Are we doing the dinner train again?????? I really loved that even with the heat. And the run early (7am) up to the base????? I will keep an eye on the posts. Lisa
Lisa,
The dinner train is always an option, but I am looking into having a BBQ dinner catered in. I'd like to have it up on Bunny Flat (7,000 ft) at a picnic spot where we went early in the morning last year. I am working on BBQ tri-tip or ribs, BBQ baked beans and cole slaw. We would have this brought in and set up. I plan to have this Saturday evening at sunset. The weather should be "warm" and the views should be spectacular. Bring some portable music and cameras.
Anybody play guitar? Harmonica? Sax? We could have our own music.
I also want to squeeze in a visit to Castle Crags just south of Dunsmuir. We could do that Saturday afternoon. I drove the route about a month ago. We can go back about 10 miles off I-5. This road is fun and these view are to die for.
I have the route done and am still working on activities. Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks,

ALL MINI/Minis & ALL Clubs:
Please make sure to get your hotel reservations booked now if you plan on joining us for the Shasta Run. Looks like we are reaching the number of blocked rooms (20).
Also please sign up for the BBQ dinner if you have not already done so. Looks like we will be getting a great turnout for that as well. We need to let the caterer know how many to plan for.
We are getting some great sponsor support so you can look for "goodies".
Reminder that this run is open to ALL clubs and ALL MINI/Minis. If you can't make the entire run, then join us for that parts you can. Don't miss the Sunset BBQ Dinner up on Mount Shasta. This should be a great photo opportunity at sunset.
If you forgot how much fun last year was, here is a link to a video that Rob Saunders put together from last year's run.

Hey ALL,
There is still room for more on the Shasta Run and at the Sunset BBQ Dinner table. If you have not made your decision yet, NOW's the TIME.
This run will take us through the beautiful Siskyou Mountains, along the Klamath River, along the Trinity Alps and river, visits to the Trinity & Shasta Dams. We will enjoy smooth, twisty mountain roads, crisp mountain air, clear deep blue lakes, a sunset BBQ dinner atop Mt. Shasta, and lots of fun.
So please join us for this years REME MINI Mountain Tour Part 1.
Cheers,

Well REME's 2nd Annual Shasta Run is in the books. What a complete BLAST!
The weather was delicious, mostly mid 80's, suuny & clear. The scenery was fabulous. The roads were smooth & twisty. We had a great group all staying at the Best Western Tree House Motor Inn in Mt. Shasta. This motel sits right below Mt. Shasta with a spectacular view of the mountain.
Our catered Sunset BBQ dinner atop Mount Shasta was fantastic. We were in a meadow surrounded by gigantic redwoods, pines, furs and the rest. The food was great, provided by San Francisco Deli of Redding CA. BBQ Tri-Tip and Chicken, salad, BBQ Beans that were "to die for". They furnished water, coffee, and even cold Great White beer from the Mendocino Brewery. They even set up tables with "real" linnen tablecloths and knapkins and silverware. This was like a wedding reception. Real classy.
After the dinner we drove up to Panther Flat for some great views of the sunset from 7800 feet and a few snow ball fights.
Saturdays drive was lead by Sandie Zudniak. This took us up to Yreka on the California/Oregon Boarder, then headed west on highway 96 along the Klamath River. Then down south through Scott River Valley, again following the river. Back across the mountain meadows near Fort Jones and we wound our way back to Weed for lunch.
Sundays run took us out to Gazelle and Callahan then over Scott Mountain on highway 3. These roads were smoooooth, twisty, and up & down like a roller coaster. We wound down Scott mountain and drove along the Trinity Lake, just under the snow capped Trinity Alps. We took a trip across and old mining bridge (100 years old+) and stopped in the historic town of Lewiston for lunch. From there we headed to highway 299 and back east through Whiskeytown Lake and into the old town of Shasta. There we had a refreshment & potty stop at our place before returning north to Mt. Shasta for dinner and a party around the pool.
On Monday we had a tour of the Shasta Dam. What a great tour. Takes you down inside the dam over 450 feet. Quite an experience. Later we had lunch at the Bridge Bay Resort over looking Shasta Lake. Then some left for home while others travelled north for a trip to the Shasta Caverns.
A fantastic, fun-filled, weekend+ for everyone. Thanks to everyone that came. See you again next year.
