October Drive in the Mountains?

Looks like its getting pretty around Alabama this time of the year. Would anyone be interested in taking a twisty trip up to Cheaha State Park on Sunday October 29th. I know its the day after daylight savings time begins, but we can start around 2:30 and make it a nice pretty drive up and maybe a beautiful sunset on the tallest peek in BAMA. Then take a trip back to Birmingham for desert afterwards.
Post here if your interested or have any other ideas.

Good idea. I'll be returning from west GA that afternoon. I'd love to meet up and motor back with y'all. It would mean boarding my dogs another night though. :(

Probably start again in Chelsea, down Hwy. 280 in the Winn Dixie Parking lot. We started there last time on the April Fools Run.

I'm in and would also like a earlier start time if possible.

Would you all object to me inviting a couple of our motorcycle friends? My hubby would more than likely want to ride the bike and we could all motor together if no objections .

bzn by you can invite anyone you like, bike, vette, etc. I think it will be a alot of fun. Was thinking if we could wait till around 2:30 or so, Golfman might be able to join us then. We're even thinking about getting together around 1pm for lunch at Classic Joe's off 119.
bamatt, I have found a new very twisty road close to Logan Martin Dam, that we can add to the trip.

jst4fun email me the new route info so I can update my map

Classic Joe's has a great brunch menu on Sunday. I haven't tried it yet but the menu looks quite yummy & not too pricey. I read a write-up on the white chocolate bread pudding where someone said it was to die for.
http://www.birminghammenus.com/classicjoes/brunch.pdf

Classic Joe's is at 611 Doug Baker Blvd (around Hwy 280 & 119)

So anyone who wants to enjoy brunch come to Classic Joes at 1PM or come hang out even if you don't want to eat. After brunch we can mosey on down to Winn Dixie in Chelsea & meet everyone else at 2:30PM.

Actually I think it is originally on the trip back from the last time, I just missed the turn off when we came over the DAM on the way back.
Both maps and the information about the day are posted on the website.

Maybe we should do the route shown on the return map on the way there since it will get dark early. I will email you tonight with an idea I have for the "going to" Cheaha route. We could do the more straight-forward route for the return trip since it will be dark or near dark

I was mapping out the route & I thought of something
What if....we skip meeting at Winn Dixie in Chelsea. Those eating Brunch meet at Classic Joe's at 1PM & everyone else come on to the restaurant when you can. We leave the restaurant at 2:30PM & go down Hwy 119 & do our usual Hwy 25 ride to Vincent. It just so happens that Hwy 25 comes out right at the new curvy road that goes by Logan Martin Dam that jst4fun was wanting to take. It would only add 5 miles onto the ride & I would much rather drive all those miles enjoying the curves of Hwy25 than spend them cruising down Hwy 280

What do you guys think
Come on everybody & lets make this a big ride we might not get many or any more in before that nasty cold weather gets here!!!!!

p.s...I invited the Vette club. Waiting to hear if we have any takers.

I'm in for which ever way we choose. How long did it take you all in April to make the trip?

I can't remember how long it took us. Seems like it was around 1.5 hours one way. We stopped at a mill along the way though. The new route is 75 or so miles one way if that helps

Wish I could join you all, but I'll be headed in the opposite direction and due in bham by 5pm. Please don't let that diiminish enthusiasm for future rides; I'll drop what I'm doing to drive together, if something comes up.

Thanks Teresa, I know that ? will be asked of me, and now I have a answer. One of the guys that rides with my hubby has a friend that just bought a mini, so I told him to extend the invite to his friend, hopefully we will have a decent turn out.

The plans have definitely been changed now so
PLEASE DON'T GO TO WINN DIXIE unless you need some groceries

We are now all meeting at Classic Joe's. People who would like to eat brunch come at 1PM. Everyone else come when ya can... just come by 2:30PM cause that's when we are leaving

The new route map is up at www.bamamini.com

Just wondering......

..are the drives pretty much always on Sundays? Thats a very busy day for us.....I sing quiet often and Bruce teaches 2 different classes, one in the morning and one at 6:30.

Also, are there any members that live up in this neck 'o the woods?

Sometimes we do Saturday rides but several members have Sat commitments so we have tried to do our Sunday rides later in the afternoon as to not interfere with church.

What neck of the woods are you in?

The Oneonta area. It's mainly a distance/time problem. We have friends in Chelsea and it takes just over an hour to get there from here.

Some Sunday afternoons days we will load up in the Mini, Bruce on his bike and go do the Botanical Garden for several hours and get back home in time for him to prep for his class. It involves a projector, an easel, moving a bunch of chairs....just takes extra time.

I really want to get together soon.

I see if I can bend the time around a bit.

PB
