Do all the new HK units have built in AUX ?

I picked up my Mini cabrio over the weekend and was annoyed my MA forgot to install the AUX port. To both of our surprises, the new HK unit had a built in AUX port in the glove box. I was wondering if all the Minis coming out now had the AUX port built in. It seems like the dealers don't know and are still charging for AUX ports and instillation.

According to my MA, the answer is no, they are not installed at the factory, even if you get the H/K. I'll know for sure Thursday when I pick up my car, and will post here. My MA thought your car was one with a dealer 'special' installed to increase the value . I wish it were true that they all had AUX in the glove box, cause from what I hear, it's a pain to install.

Nope, the AUX port is actually pretty easy to install! It can get a bit trickier depending on where you want to install it, but it's still pretty easy. I installed mine right above the vent in under the switches in the center console. It was my first time taking apart my MINI, and it sill only took me about 45 minutes from start to finish!

If you check out my gallery i took some pictures of the set up when I picked up the Mini. It's obviosly a factory instillation with the AUX port below the cooling vent in the glove box.

I don't think that your MA forgot to install the AUX port because the location that dealers install them is typically the glove box Maybe what your MA forgot is that he did install the AUX port

I'm just going by what I read on Bridger. They said you have to pull the lower dash valance, then the downtubes, then the radio. Not true?

Depends...

if your wrists are flexible, you can reach around and just plug it in. Gary did this in his car. If you have nav, then the plug is already filled and you have to remove it, and move some pins from one of the plugs to the other (really easy, don't be intimidated) and connect it back up. For that one, it helps to pull the head unit, but that's easy as well. Pull out front dash cover from the bottom (just plugs in with plastic tabs), remove downtube screws, pull out downtubes by pulling backwards at the top, then up when it's cleared the dash cover. Then it's 4 torx screws to undo the head. After you've done it once or twice, it's a piece of cake!

If you look at the pics in richreef's gallery, that is NOT the standard AUX plate in there. It looks like a factory install. Extra bonus for late model 06 H/K buyers?

What you do with it is plug in an MP3 player and leave the CDs home

They changed the glovebox, no felt linning and now its plastic w/ a pad bottom. To upgrade they do come with Fact. Aux port.
People love their MP3 players.

I'm waiting for my glove box organizer to come in. Hopefully it will fit and not screw up the AUX port.I don't think the glove box dimentions have changed.

I spoke to my MA this morning, he said he looked at my car and NO AUX input or the HK. I was a September build.

I did a follow up with my MA to make certain that he checked the glove box, he said "Really weird.... cuz yes the input is installed in the glove box.... but as of now the glove box has not been redesigned. I am wondering if that is part of the 2007 make over since the Speedometer is going to be larger.... strange how things seem to grow their own stories.... "

I have a 2003 MC and the glove box is felt lined, it has a blank plastic plate the same size as the pic sent earlier but has no writting on it. BTW, my glove box organizer appears to be near the center of the plate where the plug would go.

Same reply mine gave, even after looking. Then I asked if he checked the glove box, he said give me a minute...and I think you know the rest. Evidently this wasn't communicated extremely well.

Just picked up my early Sept 06 build MCS (PW36) with H/K and I have NO aux in the glove box.

My best guess? This is a change to the cabrios for 07 that got phased in a little early. Any recent build non-cabrios have the aux? Other recent cabrios? If so, what PW?

my MA just called for me to take delivery this SAT!!! and i asked him about this aux issue and he said that the aux comes standard in the Coopers but not the Cooper S's...he also added that lately there's been a few Coopers that came in without the aux installed by the factory so they have to install one in those coopers at the dealer...not sure how true it is...
