run flats noisy

my 1st experience w/runflats...they are REALLY noisy. Dunlap SP 5000. 195/55/R16 87V M&S. Where I live, I really don't need M/S. Any suggestions for a quieter tire w/o sacrificing too much performance?

How many miles on those tires? If you want a recommendation for a great summer tire- Dunlop SP Sport Maxx or BFGoodrich G-Force KDW-2's. Best bang for the buck tires (I prefer Dunlop)
Also- check for cupping on those rear inners on your tires- may be the source of the noise!~

you can't really compromise performance from a SP5000 tire... they don't
stick that well anyway.

How about some Ziex512's from Falken? (non runflats). they seem to
be pretty quiet.

noisy run flats

Thanks for the suggestions. 22K on tires, no cupping, even wear. As a sr. gearhead, I've already managed to scare my grandkids out of riding with me. In our other vehicles, everything is so quiet. It's a hoot to drive tho'

Avon Tech M500 is worth looking into!

Anybody tried the BFG g-force Sport, tire gets good ratings, don't have much snow here, so not to worried about it being a summer tire. Also my runflats are wearing in the inside and cupping a little, road noise bad. No vibration in the steering, car runs true, can almost turn the steering wheel loose and drink a cup of coffee. Have had some other tires that did this and the vehicle was not out of alignment just the nature of the tire.

Great smoother ride and quieter - but not too sporty, imo

I've got a little over 18000 on the RF's, the one thats giving the problem after looking at it again today appears to be somewhat out of round, funny thing is it was on the rear, the rest of the tires look fine. In a delimma(sp) at the moment as to what to do, replace one tire or the whole set..probably give you a call the first of the week after I get back from fishing.

Do the stock Dunlop runflats get more noisy when you get to around 17k miles on them? Mine have developed a wob-wob-wob sound recently when I get up to 30ish mph. The plan is to hold out until Nov and replace them with winter rubber anyway.

I get that wob-wob sound on mine at slow speeds. I disappears after 20mph or so. I have an 03 MCS with the stock Goodyear All-season runflats and the dealer told me it was the tires after I told him I was worried it was dragging brakes or a wheel bearing going out.

42,000 on the tires now, and looking to replace them soon.

I too have the goodyear runflats with about 33k on them, and the noise is almost unbearable - it makes the car sound cheap, like there is something wrong with the drivetrain. I'm in the process of killing these skins - tight corners, quick accelerations - as I have a set of Falken zie512's in the garage that I cant wait to put on. I've heard absolutely nothing but good reviews of these tires - and they're cheap.

Your survey numbers look very good on that tire, especially for one so reasonable. I think I'll take you up on your recommendation when these demon-spawned runflats wear out.

I have the summer Dunlop SP 5000 195/45/R17 runflats, no noise issues, no wob-wob, but only about 1,200 miles on them so far...hopefully they stay quiet!
