Cooper S gas mileage false or true?

hi yall. does everybody with the MCS get the same gas mileage as stated on the records? my new 06 MCS only gives me average 25 miles hwy when i thought it was going to do better. i bought the k&n typhoon to get better gas mileage and it did improve but not that much. Does all MCS owners feel like you had been misinformed about the mpg? can someone tell me if there MCS is getting 30mpg or more...
thanks for your input.

are you driving pure highway? because that sounds about right to me. EPA estimates are always a little high

On my last roadtrip adventure with my bone-stock 05 S I travelled 1,322 miles, averaged 62 mph, and got 32 mpg, including up and down many mountain passes. And I know my OBC runs accurate. If not for my brief indulgences to make sure the factory specs are correct, and they are trust me I could've averaged 34 mpg.

That sounds about right to me.

I drive 85-90% freeway. I've been tracking my mpg manually for about 2 months. The best was 28.3mpg and worst was 24.0mpg. The best resulted from smooth crusing at just below 3k rpm. Going at the flow of fast lane traffic gets low 24mpg to mid 25mpg. The results are for Northern California 91octane gas.

These posts always amaze me. I just calculated my mileage the other day and I got an all-time high of 25.0 mpg. How are you guys driving to get close to 30 mpg.

EPA guides are always, down hill, with a backwind, no weight in the car, the car in neutral, and the engine off! LOL

I've gotten 26.4 overall since new according to the OBD. One of these days I'll fill it and calculate the mileage myself.

I imagine if I had all your (engine) mods, esp. that 19% pulley, I'd prob only get 25 as well. Mine is a bone stock S (except for a K&N flat panel filter) and I know OBC is accurate because I'll on occasion do a manual check. I even used a/c some on my last trip I mentioned above.

Now, 25mpg is what I average with my spirited commute with some highway driving, a little less with the a/c on but not much.

Mine is an automatic, and is driven about an even combo of highway and city miles. Usually get around 27-28 mpg.

I have an 05 with no engine mods and I routinely get 27-28mpg never driving highway miles. During MTTS drives, Monterey through Vegas and back home, which were spirited, I averaged 28mpg. Non-spirited highway miles I have seen as high as 33mpg.

My OBC says 23.0 and it seems about right. Around town it drops under 20 and on the road it goes up to 27 or so. I'm hoping for a little improvement over time. But it actually seems about right. I always get less than I hope to get.

My average during my four months of ownership is 28.622. I think a lot depends on what rpm level you shift and how fast you drive. I generally shift at 3 and don't usually drive faster than 75 mph.

EPA mileage estimates are nothing more than a load of

I average 24MPG on my MCSC & I drive spiritedly. I have no desire to drive in such a manner that might afford me a few more miles per gallon because for my personal preference, that would be awfully boring & only save me around $10-$20 per month. I will gladly pay that small extra amount of moolah to zip

I'll chime in here. My MCS usually gives me in the range of 27-28mpg. My driving is close to 80% highway. I've had a 15% pulley on for 1000 miles now. First tank after the install was 26mpg, 27mpg for the next & the last one was 30mpg. I'm very pleased with the mpg considering the performance I get. I only drive it like it's meant to be driven, honest officer.

Maybe the rest of the country doesn't need to use the A/C, but here in TX, we NEED to use the A/C. It's always too cold or too hot.

Pur highway driving, with only an Alta CAI, I get between 32-36 MPG. That's usually cruising with traffic at about 70-75.

How many times are we going to go over this, anyway?

My automatic has been averaging about 25 mpg (25% highway driving). I have 3200 miles on her.

A little disappointing. I don't really have a heavy foot. At least I don't think I do.

I usually get about 25.5 mpg with a mix of 60/40 highway/city driving.

On extended highway trips I get 28 to 29 mpg.

I average 28 mpg but lately have been in the 30 range... 390+ miles on a 13 gallon tank = ~30mpg. I'll take it.
I use cruise control when I can on the highways. Shifting mostly at 3,000 rpms (I have shifted from time to time at 6,000 rpms though).

I also thought I was going to do better but after reading all this thread I think I'm about average. I usually get around 26 mpg with 100% city driving. On a recent trip I got 29.2 mpg with 100% highway travel. This is doing all my own figuring, I never trust the computer to do it. I was hoping for better but I suppose if I had wanted to hit the 30s I should have gotten a Cooper, not an S. It's still better than our other cars.

Funny but the first thing everyone asks me when they see the car is... "what type of gas mileage do you get?".... I'm honest with them and say not as good as I'd like... but then that's not the reason I bought the car.

On the highway I get about 26-28 miles to the gallon. I usually drive about 80mph. When I keep it around 70 mph I usually get about 30mpg. Most of my driving is on the highway.
