new car warming up too much not good...?

hello yall. just got a 06 mini s and i love it but i recently had a problem with my power. this is my first thread and hope i can get some feedback off other mini enthuiast...
i usually warm up my car and had no problem. one day i warmed it up little bit longer, about 5mins, what a difference. my car had a tremendous lag with great loss of power, and couldn't understand what was wrong. did i warm up too long... i was wondering if anybody else has experienced the same problem...
now i only warm up about 1min. i have not experienced the lag i did before when i warmed up for 5min or more.
thanks for looking hope to hear from somebody who might know what happened.

you shouldnt ever warm up a car beyond a few moments. driving it below 3k rpm is a good thing until it gets temperature but no movement in a modern car isnt that great. maybe if you live in 0 degree climates its a good idea but its September!

As to why a mini would be bad for doing that, no idea. it shouldnt be. a mechanic will run your car standing idle for 20 mins straight while they work on it and its ok. just not great to do

Yeah, owners manual aside, since the 80's, a car should be turned on, put in gear and let it just idle away, shift into 2nd without much gas peddle and hopefully get to some decent temp before having to gun it.

waiting for car helps squirt some oil around but that happens with a short pause.
