Drivetrain Spark Plug Cleaning Techniques
Spark Plug Cleaning Techniques
After reading all the issues with the Denso IK-22 plugs, I'm thinking of swapping mine out for the stock JCW plugs that were originally in the engine. I inspected them, and they don't show any wear to the electrodes- just a lot of carbon fouling. I figured I'd just clean them and install. But then it occured to me- I don't know how to clean them. Is it a simple matter of taking a toothbrush to the plugs? Do I have to use a solvent? Maybe this is a dumb question, but some input would be appreciated.

Don't bother.
You cannot do a sufficient job with hand tools.
After 25,000 miles my Denso IK22's finally gave up the ghost (not bad for a performance plug - there are those of us who remember changing plugs every 12,000 miles - and points and condensors too). I upgraded to the NGK Iridium IX equivalent of the IK22. If they last 25k I'll be ahead as they cost less. Order yourself a set. Use your JCW plugs as is until the NGKs arrive. End of story.
