I was actually pulled over for not having a front plate (and accellerating at 75 on an exit ramp--which was probably why I attracted attention). I got a verbal warning. Anyone else w/o a front plate? I assume the stop is in my record--when does that clear from their records? Any idea what happens if I get a second stop in CO with no plate? I really don't want to put it on and cover the aerokit grills.

I don't have the front plate mounted either. At least not until I get "scared" by a couple warnings first! It's probably more of a fine than a traffic offense I assume. Yet I don't really like the idea of getting pulled over JUST for that...especially if the cop doesn't like MINIs!

I don't have a front plate. So far it's cost me one $35 parking ticket for no front plate. That's not nearly enough to make me want to mount the thing.

Mine "fell off" and landed under the passenger floor mat . Thats my story and I am sticking to it. That may change when I get my expensive plates but we'll see.
I get the feeling that enforcement is discrtionary like being cited for not wearing your seatbelt, if the cop likes you/ your car you'll get off. I even have an aquantance who is a cop and doesn't run the plate on the front of her Vette.

When I was putting on the lower aero grill, I noticed that the stock front bumper license plate bracket has a second set of mounting points. They were no mount holes, but that was easily remedied. The second mont points allow you to mount the front plate lower leaving the lower grill unobstructed.

This does cause the license plate to hang a couple inches lower in front of the radiator, but I have noticed no ill-effects on the cooling system.

Good excuse Dave!
Mine, "I don't have a drill. I'm on my way to Home Depot to pick one up!"

Front plate required in CO. for photo radar speed/intersection(running red lights) control. It is only a "secondary" offense, meaning the police can only pull you over if you committed a "primary" offense ie: speeding, running a red light, etc. Since I don't like conversing with Colorado's finest, and enjoy motoring, my plate is mounted.

I just discovered that the same Statey might live on my street!? That's not cool!

Hopefully my front bracket that "is on backorder from the the U.K." will be in stock soon !

Been driving a good number of years here in Illinois, and have never had a front plate. A variety of cars (76 Olds Cutlass, 77 Olds Cutlass, 84 Mazda 626, and currently a 94 Chevy Astro (aka the "Chick Magnet&quot, no front plate. I have been pulled over once... it goes something like this...

Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Me: Nope.
Officer: You don't have a front plate. In Illinois you have to have both the front and rear plates.
Me (excitedly): What?!?!?!?! What do you mean no front plate?
Officer: You don't have a front plate on your vehicle.
Me (quizzically): I have a front plate on my car... it was there the other day when I washed my car...
At this point, I get out of the car and walk to the front, and act even more surprised.
Me: I don't believe it. I bet I know what happened... a couple of buddies and I were hanging out the other day talking about pranks... I bet they took it... someones gonna pay.
Officer: Well, let's make sure you ge a front plate on this vehicle... Tell your buddies it's not a wise prank to pull on someone. If they don't have your plate, you'll need to get to the DMV and get another one ordered.
Me: Yes sir. Sorry about that... my friends and I are going to have a few words...

Worked like a charm twice... as I drive off with a huge smile...

Glad to hear I'm not alone. Waiting until "they" make me (and then playing dumb for awhile too) It just looks so much better without, plus I don't like the idea of punching holes in my bumper.
