1st Annual Wine and Whine Run on 10/7/2006!

1st Annual Wine and Whine Run!

I've been telling the M2C2 guys how great the Tar Heel MMC guys are and vice versa, and George of M2C2 said, “then why don’t you get everybody together and Let’s Motor!”

So…Saturday, October 7th, let’s have our first annual Wine and Whine run!

1. Midnight Dave, Dave
2. BLUCOOPR, Luke, Prez M2C2 +1
3. mininc, George +1
4. Twister, Mark, Prez Tar Heel MMC
5. Pir8 97, BJ, Webmaster M2C2 (Not so much?)
6. HPUdrew, Drew
7. SSSSSSSS +1
8. Dan of Grass Roots Garage, of course!
9. Mr. and Mrs. Minianni (Yeah!)
10. MiniRog, Roger (wants to caravan from Burlington/Greensboro area)
11. a399517, Jreaney +1
12. ScottCooper, Scott? ;-) +1
13. BullFrog +1
14. Welcome to Nay's Mini with GENUINE (painted) stripes! (and her WRX-hubby, too)
15. Welcome to any other newbies!
16.
First we’ll converge on Childress Vineyards at Noon, check out each other’s cars, tour the vineyard, bench auto-X, get something to eat, wrench in the parking lot, whatever strikes your fancy.

Then we’ll reconvene back at the winery with a 2:30 p.m. departure for those who want to take a ride over to Dan’s shop, Grassroots Garage, to listen to the whine of superchargers, (not whine about taking wine home because you can’t drink and drive! ) and do a little DIY tech session as Dan installs a Helix CAI on my car, and a FREE one ball mod on Drew's car!

I HAVE cleared this through Mark and the officers at Tarheel MINI Motoring Club so it IS a club sponsored event for both clubs.

For those in Charlotte and parts South, we’ll meet right in front of Dave and Buster’s in their parking lot this time, not the courtyard ;-), at Concord Mills, (yes, where we’re having the M2C2 annual meeting), at 10:30 a.m., departing there at 11 a.m.

For those in Greensboro, Winston-Salem and parts North, how about meeting at Flow Mini, (you know! http://www.flowmini.com ), at 11 a.m., departing there at 11:30 a.m

This should have us all converging on Childress Vineyards before Noon, and Dan’s shop around 3 p.m

Dan will hold a little DIY tech session as he installs a Helix CAI on my car, and a FREE one ball mod on Drew's car. Not pulleys, there's already a pulley party at Dan's shop on Oct 14th.

Lexington, NC claims to be the BBQ capital of the world. Here’s testimony and a few places for us to eat!

The vineyard has a very nice restaurant, and there is at least one Subway nearby for those so inclined. Wine tours are at Noon, 2pm and 4pm, so you can attend the one you want whether or not you're going on to Dan's, or just come out to Dan's if you want!

http://www.childressvineyards.com/winery/

There are "knick knack" shops and an ice cream store on the grounds, and gas available in the area too, if your Mini gets thirsty.

If you have an FRS radio, please set it to channel 7, sub channel 21 for idle chatter and if you get lost during the drive ;-)

Dan found a nice, scenic route to his shop! (I'll have printouts of this on Saturday)

1. Starting at Childress on OLD US-52[NC-8] - go 0.4 mi
2. Turn right on BETHESDA RD[NC-1836] - go 1.7 mi
3. Turn right on SINK RD[NC-1835] - go 0.0 mi
4. Turn left on LAKE LEONARD RD[NC-1838] - go 1.1 mi
5. Turn left on RIDGE RD[NC-1813] - go 1.1 mi
6. Turn right on YOKLEY RD[NC-1819] - go 1.6 mi
7. Turn left on OLD GREENSBORO RD[NC-1798] - go 4.2 mi
8. Turn right on MIDWAY SCHOOL RD- go 2.5 mi
9. Turn left on NC-109 - go 0.2 mi
10. Turn right on HASTY SCHOOL RD - go 2.0 mi
11. Turn right on WASHBOARD RD- go 0.5 mi
12. Turn right on BALL PARK RD - go 0.1 mi
13. Arrive at GrassRoots Garage on the Left

We had a little glitch in the chair to keyboard connectivity device, but he fixed it once he saw HTML was turned off...

Sweet! I added it to the M2C2 calendar. I'm glad we're doing something with the THMMC guys.

...OK Mark, its time for you to put it on the THMMC calendar If you don't I'm gonna bug you all day at Tanglewood about it... or at least at the after party since I'll be at Volvo in the morning.

CAI mod at Dan's, if so, which one?

We're looking for a mod Dan can do when we're at his shop, so he can edify us about the mod and the dynamics involved with this componentry--so I'm thinking I'll buy a CAI and have him put it on the wifey's car!

Anybody who's more saavy than me agree that's a good mod for this, and if so, which intake?

1) Alta - the [sic] altimate but pricey

0) (CAI is not an option)

2) Helix - Unique, loooong filter, and cheap - WINNAH!

3) Pilo Racing - Unique and REALLY cheap, but a green filter?

4) Ultrick/K&N - been happy with K&Ns in the past, and it's a little cheaper

5) Webb - really like the looks, with the stainless box, and it's a lilttle
cheaper

PLAN B - just found this...

What about strut tower braces? http://www.m7tuning.com/main.m7/store/10036

MidnightDave,
I vote for the Alta, as I've got one and love the sound (It's the loudest)
The red filter looks really trick and would be a great match for your CR.
Go for the hose... again it dresses up the in engine bay.
If you like the cover that the Webb offers, Alta also has one as an option.

I've also got the M7 STB. Looks good. Function is arguable... I don't think I could tell a difference. But for just strut tower reinforcing, they are worth it. I had a mushrooming tower and would cringe everytime I would hit uneven pavement. With the M7 bits, I don't worry about it... though I still cringe (expletive deleted) when I hit those potholes.

Hope this helps in your decision.

Keith

Welcome and I hope you both can join us.

I will be at the AutoFair this Saturday with about 18 other MINIs. I hope to talk a few of them into joining us.

Thanks
George

The Alta CAI is a fairly easy mod. If you want to see something that is more of a challenge I suggest the M7 AGS. That will give Dan more to talk about since it involves removing more parts... but will obviously take longer too.

A pulley install would be a great mod to showcase. It is sounds scary since it involves jacking up the engine, but it is really quite simple and quick if you have the right tools... and Dan does.

Yeah! The Minianni's might stop unpacking to join us!

BJ, Keith, Dan's doing a pulley party a week later, I'm just looking for something "quick", and low budget while we're at his shop, and it's an excuse for me to pick up a new toy.

Keith again, we're in the middle of a kitchen remodel, and just had to buy a new washer/dryer b/c they've been limping along and the washer finally crapped out last night, so the money tree is a little thin right now. I'm thinking under 200 is the way to go for me right now...

Dan, let's go with the Helix filter on my car. PM me if need be, otherwise, I'll bring cash.

Anybody else interested in a CAI at this time? Remember, the pulley party is happening on the 14th at Dan's. This is more of a DIY tech session while we're there...that and I'm NOT a DIY guy when it comes to cars, so Dan will do mine for me! ;-)

Luke,
Do you think everyone wants to stand around all night while I do a v-tec swap? Hey, could be fun

Does anyone want a one-ball mod? for free?
I think it would be fun to do with you all there, and I have plenty of stock exhausts here if the recipient decides they don't like it!!!
