aftermarket mini (stub) antenna - any consensus?

hey all..

we want to replace our R/C antenna with one of the stubby versions? but is there a consensus which one is best? alta, s2000, moss motors.... i've done a few searches on the subject but can't determine if there is a NAM favorite..

i was about to go with the s2000 antenna and then read a post that the fitment wasn't 100%...

suggestions? owners who have used one and loved it, been disappointed with it, traded one for another?

thanks so much!!

I've got the Bimmian one.. The reception is a teensy bit less than my R/C antenna.. but it looks much better.. and I can squeak into my garage a split second faster now without my antenna slapping.. A great tradeoff...

Originally, I just took off my antenna...so I wasn't using anything. No problem with radio signals or anything. I just recently picked up an ALTA antenna and love it. Still, the radio is the same. The fit is supurb with no problems at all, and it very tight. Excellent product bought from www.halfmoonauto.com

I live in a rural area and have the Alta stubby antenna. My radio reception is much worse now but I still get a couple stations to come in clearly. Anytime I head near a larger city the reception and sound quality is fine.

I observe slightly less range with the Alta, but I like it.

Guess I'm the only one who likes the look of the R/C antenna. My CR/W MC with white wheels looks exactly like a remote contolled toy car, and the factory antenna is perfect.

haven't noticed a decrease in performance with my S2K antenna. fitment isn't bad; I can take a quick pic some time if you'd like.

I got the Alta and tested it on several drives thru the mountains, as I had heard about decreased reception - in my informal tests there was no difference between it and the oem r/c antenna

I got the Alta antenna only because the RC antenna hit my low garage door every time. But now that I think of it, I don't think I have ever used the radio. My Ipod is always in the car with me. So I can not comment on the performance.

I wish I would not get any reception!
Here in Denver it is hard to find a blank spot on the FM dial so my IPod FM transmitter is constantly getting walked on by radio stations. Even if I take the antenna all the way out!
Wouldn't it be nice if you could flip a switch on the radio to avoid any signals more than 10 feet away (like an extreme local setting). I guess I could get the aux input, but I like the system I got now because it will charge the IPod and is portable from vehicle to vehicle.
Suggestions?

S2000 here!

Just got an s2000 antenna last week. Looks great, no loss of radio reception. There is a member that sells them here on NAM for $16.00 shipped! Can't beat the price. The user is Xbbmini, search for s2000 antenna in the Marketplace forum.

Get the AUX input. It's cheap and easy as pie to install. FM transmitters for the ipod suck, not to mention FM quality isn't the best in the world. After seeing how bad my friend's works (even here in BFE where we have like 5 stations) I never bought one for my iPOD...

Alta is pretty nice.

Anything is better than the stock RC look.

Here's a free solution, just chop the stock one! That's what I did and it works beautiful. No change in reception (I got ok reception without an antenna as well though). The little rubber cap on the skinny end slips off with a little pulling force, then cut the antenna to desired length with pliers (I went all the way down leaving about 1" from skinny part of the antenna), then just replace the rubber cap. VIOLA! Instant FREE stubby that compares to the rest!

What you need is the ipod adapter, not the aux input. The ipod adapter charges your ipod, plus you can use your M/F steering wheel with it. With the aux input, you have to take the ipod out and charge it, and you can't use the steering wheel.

Costs a lot more too, plus my volume works fine on my steering wheel and I can plug anything into it, not just an ipod. I've plugged my laptop in a few times and as I had a friend watching a movie on it during a trip...that way I could hear it too. Was actually kind of cool

Plus my ipod lasts for hours on a charge, unless I take a trip I only charge it one time on the weekend and it lasts me all week. Or just charge it before a trip. no biggie.

the 12 dollar ebay antennas are teh same as the 30 dollar alta antennas minus the alta sticker.

i have one, reception is a lot worse than stock, but the car looks a hell of a lot better. i mainly find myself having reception problems in the city. when i am outside of the city i usually can pickup everything pretty well.

oh yeah AM radio comes in almost perfect with my small 12 dollar ebay antenna

I was reading from the MINI2 site about the "Mercedes C-Class" antenna fitting the MINI. The poster had pictures and it looked really good...only about an inch long. He did warn that it was pricey. I've spent quite a bit of time looking for this antenna....MB parts sites, ebay, etc....trying to find one but could not find it. Anyone had any luck? Mind sharing this valuable info with us? The MINI2 poster I think is from Europe but I would like to hear from someone who may have gotten it from around here. Thanks .
