Thinking about purchasing a Mini Cooper - have a few questions...

I currently have an Acura RSX, but thinking about purchasing a Mini cooper because Acura RSX is being discontinued.

Will a 6'1" surfboard fit down the middle of a mini cooper? I think it might be close if you angle the board towards the passenger side seat or on the dashboard... has anyone tried it?

Also, what do you like the Black color? Or is it difficult to maintain and keep clean?

Thanks for your help .

The surfboard won't fit in the car.

Just get a roof mount for it.

So, it definately wont fit length-wise down the middle of the car (with the back seats down) and resting on the dashboard?

I haven't measured the distance in my MINI, but it sure seems like at least 6' 1". Nose first, turned on it's side. Cars at home, I'm at work otherwise I'd go check it for you. I surfed a loooooooong time ago. It would fit down through the moon roof and when I get home I'll check it out and if no one has a more definitive answer I'll respond back from home. In the meantime...good luck.

As far as black goes...my current car (while I await my MINI) is black, and unless you are a detailing freak (washing your car every other day or at least hitting it with detail spray), there is just no way to keep it looking clean all the time. I live in Northern California, where it rains pretty much 3 months straight in the winter, and during that time of year, I frankly just give up on it.

Now in the summer, when I can stay on top of it, the black is so pretty when it's all shiny and the sun blazes off of it. But those 3 months of rain have caused me to swear to never buy a black car again.

Now I'm sure there are plenty of AB people who will come here to plead their case but for me, black was just frustrating.

Is a roof mount not possible for you?

I've got the Mini roof rack (dealer installed option). Had two bikes on it this weekend. Doesn't interfere with the sunroof at all.

The rack system is pretty nice. They instal 4 what I call mount points on the roof. Then the rack bolts onto the mount points. When you don't want the rack on there you can unbolt it, remove it and cover the mount points with 4 black plastic covers that slide over then and snap into place.

I love the black, but as already said, it is a pain to keep clean.

If you are looking for an all-black, make sure to check the color. I am not partial to the astra black, but others are.

I saw a MINI on my area with roofrack and two boards on top..it looks so damn good.. I started considering surfing..even w/o waves here in south florida... As for black.. It's an amzing color specially the JET-BLK but It demands lots of time to keep it looking at its best..but in my case I love the look so i try my best and enjoy doing it!.. good luck with your purchase..you will forget that acura exists..

I have an astro black MC. Although I just bought it off the lot and didn't really choose the color I LOVE it, but yes it is harder to keep clean so it just depends on whether its worth it to you. My attitude is, buy your car based on what color you like best. Black probably would have been at or near the top of my list anyway...

Konky, or anyone else that knows, what kind of wheels are on your MINI? The pics with the bike attachment. They are sweet!

I just don't care that my JB doesn't look perfect all the time. JB is the only color that would work with my "concept", and I'm thrilled with how it turned out. Sure, she looks best when clean and polished, but she's always beautiful to me.

Or mount it sideways...would probably make a great airplane! Just think a supercharged Miniplane!

Why not just take your surfboard with you to the dealer and check yourself whether you can or cannot fit it into a MINI? I doubt the dealer would object to you trying to fit a surfboard into one of their cars.

the same rack can be used for surfboards or bikes.

thanks for the observation mini-mine... i did assume that the discussion about racks was obvious, but it may not be for those that do not surf.

Thanks for the helpful replies... But has anyone tried to fit a surfboard inside? Do you know approx how long is the measurement from the dashboard to the rear window of the trunk?
