Convenience Opening/ Keyless Entry Questions

I am wondering how to get my top to go down using the key. I can get it to go all the way to the sunroof position, but even if I hold the button down, or if I realease it and press it for a fourth time it still won't come down.

Also I am wondering if anyone knows how to get the horn to beep when I lock or unlock the doors.

Thanks for all your help to a new mini owner.

On my '06 I have to wait for the sunroof and windows to open, then release and press a fourth time and hold - there's a second or two delay before the roof starts opening. If it doesn't work ask your service advisor at the dealership - I hear that some dealerships begain disabling the remote open because it "drained the battery after 4 or 5 openingas and closings". I'm not exactly sure what kind of foo' would repeatedly open and shut the roof on battery (you'd literally have to get inside the car, turn on the electrical with the key and close it with the interior buttons, as remote CLOSING isn't an option as far as I know), but, there you go. The battery, of course, recharges as you drive... If they disabled it, tell them you want it re-enabled. I open mine 4 or 5 days a week, in the morning and afternoon, and the battery is still just fine.

As for the horn chirp, I don't remember ever seeing that as a configurable option. Does anyone know if that can be done at the dealership via the onboard computer? I know I've seen configuration options on here somplace, but I can't seem to relocate the list. I kind of wish I had that ability, as well...

Congrats on your new Mini and welcome!!!

You have to have the Factory alarm or rig a horn to the light circut.
Thats all that is avl. at this time.
Ya, the top function is slow and you have to press twice.

Welcome to NAM and to the very special Cabrio Club!

Sometimes after getting the sunroof to open, I have to let go the "open" button, wait 3 seconds (which can seem like forever when you're standing there, like an idiot next to your car that is doing nothing), then press the "open" again. It's usually a sure thing if I'm patient.

And don't forget, wave, wave, wave!

While remote closing isn't an option, you can close the top with the key without using the buttons in the car. Just close the door and lock the car with the key (not the remote) by turning the key clockwise. Release the key but don't remove it from the lock, then turn clockwise again and hold. The top and windows will close.

Thanks for your replies. I have tried your recommendations and found success. If I let it go after the third push when the sunroof option starts and then hold it down again the top will come down. Thanks for your warm welcome.

Has anyone had any experience with the distance using the keyless entry being really short like 10-15 feet away.

Placing the key in your mouth while holding the unlocking button will give you approximately 2-3 times the usual range. You'll look absolutely silly doing it as you walk through the parking lot, but your MINI will be ready for topless motoring by the time you walk up to its doors. Human beings make wonderful antenna boosters!

On Gromit I have found that I can turn the key(door will lock) and hold it and the top/windows will close without releasing the key between steps.

I don't know why I never tried that. I checked the manual and it doesn't indicate that you need to release the key. Maybe that is what my SA told me to do and I never questioned it.

This DOES work. Although all I do is put the key under my jaw. I wonder if my brain will ever fry from being used as a meat antenna booter for that weak signal?
