OBX header, OEM Cat, no CEL light

I got my OBX header on, my installer cut off the stock cat and simply welded it on and so far, after 5 days, hasn't missed a beat! im gonna climb under the car tomorrow to double check all nuts and bolts... but what puzzled me is that everyone seems to have CEL lights, even when taking out the pre-cat, but i just run the stock cat on the obx header... and no CEL light, does that make sense? or am i just being paranoid?

FYI: Scorpion exhaust, and OBX header, truly makes for a very old rally car exhaust burble... bru bru bru pop pop pop bru bru

and another note, absolutely no problem with noise with the two people who rides in my car all the time.. my mother, and my girlfriend... neither has even noticed it until i told them!

I never had any issues with it either. I had an OBX with the stock cat. No lights. Ya, the header with some loud pipes does make for some nice noise. I have the M7 single res. setup with the OBX now. It's kinda fun to let off the gas in a crowded parking lot, hear it backfire and watch people duck

Got the stock cat on my OBX as well, with no CEL. I haven't looked at the OBX dyno thread in a while, but I didn't think there were many people who were throwing CELs with the OEM cat welded on.

Love the extra torque the OBX header provides, but the highway drone that developed (even though I'm still running the stock cat-back) can be a little annoying on long trips. The only sure-fire way to take care of that is by dropping the top, but none of my passengers enjoy long trips with the wind and sun.

i dont know... the OBX didnt add that much intrusive noise into the cabin at crusing speed, although there's a noticeable increase... especially if i put my foot down... that said, i probably got accustomed to my scorpion (2 years on the car now)

that said, i LOVE it! old rally car sounds much more interesting than a pure sounding engine.....................

If you think the OBX drones with the stock cat...try doing highway driving w/ OBX and NO cat. My ears ring for a little afterward, haha. Just purchased a high flow cat though, so that should take care of the problem hopefully!

Glad to see you chime in! It was largely due to Bahamabart's informative posts on the OBX header and cat-back that I decided to give the header a go. Thanks!

OBX header + gutted stock cat + Magnaflow = No SEL light (as of 2 weeks being installed) and almost identical sound as stock header/cat with Magnaflow exhaust

I wish I could say it was my bright idea but the credit goes to others for finding OBX header and re-using the stock cat. I admit I jumped on it when I understood the price.

At this $$ level a header is a viable option for the budget enthusiast.

Love the extra TQ grunt that it gives the car.

If you gutted the stock cat, I would think you would be getting a CEL sometime soon. I'm assuming that a gutted stock cat means that it is now straight through with nothing inside. Why not just take out the whole cat?

Unless you left some of the material around where the 2nd 02 feeds in, you should definetly get a CEL. I did this before with a test pipe on my prelude, it had a bung off of the test pipe that was filled with cat material. Running this setup, it never gave me a CEL, not in over a year...

The CEL light is due to high flow cats out there. Mini Mania has a fix for those running High Flow Cats. Call Eric at Minimania.

Most high flow cats will not give a CEL.
