2007 Cooper S Convertible

Heya and hello!

First post on this forum!

I'm going to buy a new mini S convertible in October or April and would like to know what changes are known for the 2007 S convertible vs. the 2006?

I've heard there will be no changes in the engine (SuperCharge remains, no turbo) as well as the body until 2008? Is this true? I'd hate to extend myself in October for the buy rather than saving a few months for the downpayment in April, but I am not sure about the coming changes. From what I've read, they seem to be for the worse.

I'd like you opinions on this dilemma; but if there are no changes planned for the SC, then it isn't much of a dilemma.

Also, what options are worthwile in your (owner's opinion)? Thanks much, very excited about this purchase!

Thx in advance!

Make sure you don't forget the MFSW unless you are positive you will never want cruise control.

got the NAV on my 2006 MCSc and love it also got the windblocker and like that too. Actually I got most of the package (except cold weather, since I live in Florida). But those two are my favorites

The vert will basically be a 2006 even in 2007, not getting the new turbo engine or redesign like the hardtops will. So if you want to save some money, you can do so without worrying that you'll be getting a completely different car than what you're expecting.

On the other hand, will they be raising the prices on the 2007 convertibles even if they're the same as the 2006 convertibles?

I guess you just have to weigh the options of saving more now vs. paying more if the prices go up significantly by the time you want to buy.

As for options... I think the chrome line interior looks classy, even though I thought "WHAT was I thinking?!" when I read over my order form a few months after ordering and had forgotten the finer details.

All a matter of taste of course. Here's one persons version. I'd say the Limited Slip Differential is a bargain at $500. And a great thing on a high power to weight ratio little car.

I did NOT get Climate control, 'cause the tops down too much.

I did get the Cold weather pack. Good combo deal and the heated seats from this group + the wind deflector (sold seperate) greatly extend the top down season. Be aware the wind deflector is avail much cheaper by mail order from Classic MINI in Ohio...

I got the Chrono pack, 'cause with a blower and a pulley that I knew were in my future, a engine making almost 2 HP per Cubic inch I like to keep tabs on. This gives me oil temp and pressure. Alas you lose the central speedo and huge tach though. But I wanted those gauges. Now you might be able to get one of the twin gauge pods that puts a small gauge on either side of the tach.

Front and rear fogs. When from the facotry you save $. If you get em later you pay not only for the lights, but a new switch bank and programming.

Bought the 3 spoke with cruise control, this give you the audio and cruise on the wheel for $250 instead of the conv package which is much higher and I didn't need the other stuff in that.

Took the stock stereo. Their price was out of line for the HK in my opinion. Others swear by it. I'm comfortable doing stereo installs etc so I'll do my own stereo upgrade at some point. But mostly I leave it off and listen to the cold air intake and exhaust note. ;-)

Took the default wheels. Again, the price for MINI wheels is pretty darn high especially for the weight they are. I went after market for wheels and tires two weeks after I got the car.

Good Luck,
Mark

Are we REALLY sure about the 2007 -08 convert being identical to the 2006 spec cars? I've seen a couple posts to that effect but not qouting sources. I just turned over 20,000 miles this a.m. If indeed they are the same as the 2006 I'd seriously consider buying a 2008 just like I have just to reset the odometer to 0... Which by then seems like it'll be in well into the 40-50k miles range.

Was at the Pittsburgh dealership today for a test drive and both Mini Salesmen said there were no changes due for the convertible; aside maybe from a price increase and different colors.

The latest prediction on MotoringFile is that the new model convertible will not be available until early 2009: http://motoringfile.com/2006/08/08/n...on-timeline-2/

Be sure to pick and choose your options rather than just choosing the packages. I realized early on that there were only a couple of options I really wanted from each package (exept the cold weather, thats a must), and I saved a ton of money by only purchasing the MFSW, chrono pack and zenon headlights.

Chili Red, that is likely all me, but what is MFSW? Rememver, not all of us have lived and breathed MINI for 5 years! Anyone else who owns a MINI have any opinions on what options/packages are worth it? You've bought , been driving it for 2,3 years....what was worth it? Let us know!

MFSW= Multi-Function-Steering-Wheel

This option gives you cruise control and buttons to control the stereo.

A few people say they never use cruise. Me, I use it all the time. Even if you think you will never use cruise, you should still get this option for ease of resale, and because if you change your mind it's very expensive to retrofit. It's not like it's going to bother you while you aren't using it.

Plus, it ought to be standard equipment.

What I have decided so far: Let me know if you have any ideas or possible improvements.

Chili Red MCSC:

Sport Package:
-DSC
-Front Fog Lamps
-Sport Seats (Tho I thought they were standard on the S?)
-17" Wheels
-Xenon Headlights

Cold Weather Package:
-Heated Mirrors
- " Front Seats
- " Washer Jets

Conv. Package:
-U. Door Opener
-Auto Dim R. V. Mirror
-Rain sens. Wiper

Ala Cart Additions:

Bonnet Stripes in Black
Chrome Line Ext.
Limited Slip Diff.
Body Color Dash
Cruise/MFSW
Chrome Interior
OB Computer

Thought about the Illiminated Sills, but I'm not 17 and thought they might look cheesy...anyone have them and love them? Seen them and think they look great? Or a waste of money?

Body color Paneling inside - worth it on the Red? Or would silver be better? Opinions? I Gotta go to the lot and look, I suppose.

Any ideas, thoughts and quibbles about the options, let me know. Know I need a windguard but I'm not paying 500 bucks for it...ebay or something, here I come.

Plan on adding a pulley as well; for those of you who have one, how much HP did it add? Who installed it? Violate the warrenty? How much MPG did it cost you? Notice a difference in performance?

I appreciate your help and ideas as I'm working like a slave to pay off my 05 Element and hopefully will buy in October. Plan on keeping this puppy for a while (dont like the new look MINI, but do like the Turbo) and want to make sure I don't make any major faux pas. Thanks!

Get all the handling options

we don't have an S (will be trading for one probably this fall), but have sport susp, traction control, etc. Get all that. The handling is the thing that makes this car so awesome. No curve is a challenge to it!

This is my pkg. I could honestly do w/o the rain sensing wipers and the fogs, but definitely not the auto dim RVM. I love the chrome lined interior and body colored dash.

Four other options I'm very glad I added:

- Rear fog light. The MINI is small. In bad weather I want cars behind me to see me as much as possible.

- Factory-installed center arm rest. Yes, I know $200+ is a bit crazy for an arm rest, but when it's all part of the cost of the car, who notices? And any time I'm driving at highway speeds (i.e., not shifting) for more than 10 or 20 minutes I use it and love it.

- Clear bra. Rock chips are a fact of life--unless you have the clear bra. I'm finding it also makes cleaning bug goo easier. I want my paint to look perfect as long as possible, and don't mind the slight visibility of the clear bra.

- iPod adapter. Yes, you can use the auxiliary, but I love that the iPod adapter charges my iPod while it's plugged in. I leave my iPod in the car when I'm not using it to go running, and it's always charged up. This one is a dealer accessory, though--I would have waited and saved the $ if my dealer hadn't made some mistakes and ended up giving me the iPod adapter for free to make up for them.

My 2 cents...

Thanks for the reply, am Emailing the dealer today; you mentioned saving on the Ipod adapter - can you find the same thing, controllable by the MFSteeringWheel in the aftermarket? BTW I've added the rear fog light and arm rest to my order!

So the engine and drive tran stays the same, what about the hood/headlights and the interior? Will these stay the same on the Cabrio or will you get the '07 interior and hood/headlight arrangement?

Same interior, same bonnet...everything as before. Anybody wanting to avoid the '07 changes might ought to look at a cabrio.

What he said, no changes at all until the parts bin for building 06 models and selling them as 07's runs out.
