All The Great Ones Are Gone

When I first joined NAM the MINI community was just beggining to blossom. Not much was known about the MINI motor and what could be done with it. Several tunners put there cars on the chopping blocks to see what would happen.

Then slowly but surely the people that were making unheard of horsepower started to dissapear. Now I am beggining to understand why they left. (well one was banned). I don't want to go out calling people names and acting like an a$$. So I would just like to say that I will no longer be bothering you guys by asking for numbers or asking any type of questions. Nor will I be posting any type of information on this board.

If any of you out there decide that you are interested in making real horsepower... Well I'm sure you can find me on a "firery" forum.

i'll miss you man, you helped me out with a few questions on the twincharge setup and enjoyed reading about your TC exploits. Everyone has left that i aspired to (horsepower wise) and i need to find the other sites. PM me man and let me know where to go!

OK then....are you trying to go out like Tuls with a thread begging responses? I never understood why he did that. He seemed like an awesome guy and i PM'd him a few times for T/C questions that he gladly helped me with. Just don't understand the sudden dissappearance thing. All forums have unnecessary baggage just like everything else in life. Give it some time and this "firery" forum will have it, too.

Seann

Just a question for those left. Is this the fireball tim forum these guys are speaking of? isn't that where Hubie is or whatever? Kind of adds up...aren't both these two TC guys?

jlm still chimes-in on occasion, thankfully!

And while Andy and Tuls have not posted in quite some time, they've been online though. I think it was a few days ago I saw Tuls, and Andy was checking things out about a month ago...

Hate to see anyone go over a misunderstanding or miscommunication.

To paraphrase Shakespeare:

Some are almost born great, some almost achieve greatness, and some almost have greatness thrust upon them.

If your going to throw high and tight at me and my batters you need to expect to get dusted off at the plate..... if you play hardball...expect hardball... the funny thing is that hardball was met with "coach pitch" ..... I feel bad we lost him

I think one measure would be long term influence, hopefully positive. Someone memorable.

Now who were we talking about??

Sorry...couldn't resist

You know I've been a member for a while and one thing I never understood are these - "i'm going to play in another sandbox posts" which no matter how well written only comes off as "sour grapes" - justified or not.

Boards have a useful life expectancy for each of us. When you reach that point and it's time to go then I say "go and thank you for the time spent here".

Spillman wants to make horsepower and he isn't worried about driveability and looking cool. That is left up to the people who are bashing him in this thread. Cheers

Who cares

I appreciate people who have come before me, and I try to learn from them, but these type of posts are so self serving.
If you want to be here good, if not don't expect tears.

Bashing?

I just re-read the whole thread. There's no bashing here. Fact is, he posted some things that pissed people off, and they let him know.
Over the last week or two, he's been sarcastic and insulting. While there is technical content in his posts, the attitude didn't contribute anything, and was often a negative. Everything he was trying to point out or question he wanted to ask could have been done in a way that wasn't insulting, but he chose not to do that. Oh well. Maybe it's been a bad week, we've all had them. I do hope that he sticks around, and learns to play a bit better with others, because he is doing some really neat crap.

But the FBT forums will make a very poor substitute. I was over there this morning, and only about 3-5 threads have any posts in the entire month of july!

I am not bashing his accomplishments or his goals....I, to the contrary admire them.....as I admire the accomplishments of FBT, Tuls, Jan etc..... I truly would like it if those guys were posting.....

For some strange reason I've found most of the TC crowd leaves this board. I'm not sure why but I'm guessing because originally when the TC solution was developed for the MINI Cooper S there were a lot of naysayers bashing them everyway possible despite their proof of data. I'd get tired of it too and did get tired of it but it was no reason to leave the board. Just stop giving the negativity amunition to feed off of and they'll stop eventually. Let other's decide for themselves if they want to go down the TC road after the data is provided. I think when the TC is implemented correctly it's dang cool!

But this latest round of what could most likely be a SC solution for +250 being given the same treatment by someone from the TC crowd kind of makes me scratch my head. I followed all the postings and understand many, although not all, of the nuances of the technical debate. I look forward to the SC solution providing the same proof of data that the TC solution endured. That would leave the decision in the hands of the MINI owner to decide which solution they would rather have if they decide to pursue additional hp at all. The hurt feelings over exclusivity for a +250hp solution are unfathomable. I wonder if it's a juvenile attitude of "I'm right and you're wrong no matter what." Oh well, that's for others to own.

Honestly, it's pretty awesome that there are now going to be two methods to pursue that kind of hp. Nothing but fun stuff to me either way.

I also think it would be awesome if the TC crowd decided to come back. They have tons of insight to the TC solution for those who would pursue it. Nothing but good.

At some level, I feel that we all want numbers, but numbers derived via means that will tell us something significant; for which we can base decsions. The last thing I want is a number that can mislead...

The ad nauseam request for dyno numbers seems to be almost reflexive for some. Dynos have their purpose, and glaring short-comings for us. The accuracy, and more importantly, the repeatability of accelerometers can serve us well as the information is gathered under real, not simulated conditions...

As I said before, I don't want to see anyone, "great" or not, leave us for the wrong reasons. I feel that bashing is an attack on an person, company, entity etc... not on a comment, expression or idea.

This place is like a dang soap opera some times!

Now that we've established your feelings on the matter, we're all better enlightened. Seriously, I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm not sure at what point you developed a problem with me.

For the record, no, I don't think I've achieved greatness. Far from it. Neither, though, do I think throwing a turbo on a MINI and making it work is greatness. It's innovative, sure. Cool, even. But great? I wouldn't go that far. I think it's entirely unfair to classify the TC crowd as great, but the rest of us as hacks. To say that TCing a MINI is the only thing that classifies as pushing the envelope. Let's just think about the implications of that.

Maybe someone who has made a mark on the community.

To those who made a contribution small and large. I can list a few off hand (both here and gone)....I hope I have them correct.

Andy - Showed us the VGS and HAI on the cheap!
Tuls and others - for pushing the envelope with Twincharging
Randy Webb - For helping us believe in the 15% pulley and product testing
Dr Obnxs - For testing that we all can take into consideration when modding.
M7 - For thinking out of the box

And the one thing they all have it common is that they contributed in their own way. Some have come and left their mark and left and I respect that. They can share their greatness with others and leave space for someone to step up here.

Just my .02.
