I just wanted to say that ALL the great ones are not gone. There are many great tuners alive and well in these forums. -- Johan

You are 100% correct Johan, there are plenty of 200hp tuners that are still around. All of the 300+hp guys are gone.

Minimute...

What's your problem? I still don't understand your point. PEople come and go. Alta is still here, and they offer twincharging, as does Helix. There are nitrous people here, and the 62 is opening a whole new door (think of twincharging that sucker! Someone will eventually). While Webb is selling his mule, it's twincharged. Ryephile is here, on and off, and his straight Turbo is looking real, real good. Not 300 yet, I think he's at 265 or so. So I don't think you're correct in saying that Twincharging has left the NAM building...

As to your post that Spillman didn't care about drivability or looking cool, you forgot to mention tact. Didn't care about that either.... At least for a week or two.

I'm baffled.....

Are you saying that no one who can't/doesn't/doesn't care to reach 300+ is worthy? Is this some pinnacle I was not aware of?

i have been on these forums since i first ordered my MCS in 2002. i have read posts by all the "great ones" and i personally could care less if they don't choose to post anymore.

Tuls - i actually enjoyed his comments and he was very neutral most of the time. he's the only one i actually "miss" a little, he was just a good ol' power junkie.

Andy - kind of smug sometimes, although i did appreciate his search for the truth, but there are better ways to go about it than he did. i don't miss him at all.

El Diablito - smug all the time! he had way too much money and a lot of time and he flaunted that all over NAM. does not sit well with me nor did most on this forum like it either. he was banned-good riddance! btw from what i heard not a part of FBT's team anymore either

jlm - i really miss his comments. he was a thinking man and very practical about it all. he had lots of auto know-how and applied his experiences to the MINI.

plain and simple this car (the MINI) is a work-in-progress for us all. some like El Diablito chose to throw as much money at it as possible and brag when he made enough power to blow it all up, congratulations buddy ! others were after advancment and innovation, thanks boys from us all . it is when our egos get the best of us that it all gets blown out of proportion. this is an online COMMUNITY, can't we all just get along like one? i'm just so excited to have more options available to me and my little baby! i can't wait to log onto this site everyday to see what's new and improved, don't make me wanna leave too

I agree. I've also been around for a while and lived through the HAI, AGS, twincharging, etc. We have lost a bunch of technical guys who tried new things and pushed the envelope. While some brought trouble upon themselves, there was still quiet a lot of negative feedback against these people and that's why they left. Constructive criticism is fine (and good for further developement) but some went too far. We don't have to believe everything they say but don't bash it if you don't understand how it works.

We still have some good tuners and developers here. Lets try not to loose any more.

To those who made a contribution small and large. I can list a few off hand (both here and gone)....I hope I have them correct.

Andy - Showed us the VGS and HAI on the cheap!
Tuls and others - for pushing the envelope with Twincharging
Randy Webb - For helping us believe in the 15% pulley and product testing
Dr Obnxs - For testing that we all can take into consideration when modding.
M7 - For thinking out of the box

And the one thing they all have it common is that they contributed in their own way. Some have come and left their mark and left and I respect that. They can share their greatness with others and leave space for someone to step up here.

Just my .02.
I would add Dr Obnxs to that list...anyone else? The "NAM Hall of Fame"...

We can also do a "NAM Hall of Shame" list as well...

excuse me? who the heck are you? how do you know what i have in my car? and how can you make such a comment after what i wrote what brought that on? did i insult you? or are you friends with one of the "great ones"? for your info i have money to spend and i just made an appoinment with Eric @ Helix to get a bunch of stuff installed, including a GIAC, JCW injectors, intake, among other things, to get added to my 15% pulley and Invidia exhaust. some of us (like me) were maybe waiting for our warranty to run out or for the MINI market to grow, and for mods to become more tested and proven. now you know what i have mini-c, do pray tell what do you have in your car Mr. "i've only been here for 5 posts"

mini-c,

do you not see how you insulted me with your post? saying not only that i contributed to the "degeneration" of the thread, but also saying that i was envious of others with more money than I? when you have no idea who i am or what my financial situation is? think about it, then read the site guidlines again.

wow.... I'm not quite sure what to say. It's so sad to see such a great community like this start to fall apart/have a few who just can't play nice. I've noticed lately in some threads (especially the m62 thread) that some just can't play nice. I hate to see it happen within such a group like you guys. I would expect people like this in a Honda forum, but not the Mini community. I guess it's everywhere...even in the VW forums people can't play nice.

Why?

There have been so many on here who have contributed so much. I still don't know much, but I'm trying to learn and figure this car out.

If we could quit b*&!^ing back and forth and actually put our heads together, I bet we could cover more ground and achieve a lot faster than where we are now. (I'm sure you all have thought about this before)

For those who trek on inspite of being put down, here's a to you.

I know how it feels. I once had a bone stock Integra that got laughed at, but once done, it ran 11's turbo'd Who's laughing now

Again, those so far listed in the NAM Hall of Fame, you deserve a beer

I would like to add my 2 cents....

While I am infact useless as **** on a bull I have found this site a great resource. I enjoy the fact that you can publicly interact with vendors, the NAM search archive has served me well numerous times and on SEVERAL occasions I have PM'd back and forth with other members for tech help.

I don't think the people left because they reached 300+hp.....I believe they left because all everyone did was BASH their claims over and over again. Generally, the MINI community is great, but sometimes people just can't take it anymore...and honestly, I don't blame them for leaving.

The MINI community is NOT about fighting, yet we still continue to do it....but why. That is something I don't know, and cannot answer.

Cheers,
-Cody

first i'd like to say that i love NAM! between the bickering and jibber jabber that occurs and the pissing contests, most of the time i just go on reading and sometimes laughing. the information on this site has not only proven informative but incredibly valuable to me as an auto and a MINI enthusiast. between this place and just simply getting in my MCS everyday, my love affair with all things MINI soldiers on 3 years later. secondly i'd like to apologize to all for my outburst at mini-c but that was the only time (as far as i can remember) i was really insulted on this forum. if you check my post history i have always remained very neutral and eager to learn. i will end it here as far as that goes, but just needed to say my piece. i'd also like to say that i do love the idea of the TC kits and i am intrigued by the M62 kit. now if only certain people would recognize how cool and exciting it really is to have options, and stop putting themselves and their cars on pedestals just because they had the stones to go a route they feel is best, we'd get along around here much better. we are all looking at ways to make our cars the best for our means and our needs. if you llike it do it, and just share it with NAM so we can possibly see a NEW idea that others may be interested in around here.

I am fortunate enough that if I wanted to I could write a check and be over 300 whp tomorrow...... would that make me great? I don't think so..... guys like Hubie and Eric who developed these kits are to be commended.... but I don't want it for my car...... I think often that his site was mistaken for a hp war..... who has the most wins.....for me it has always been how much can I get and retain the fun and feel of the original car.....MSFITOY has always been my favotite for all its detail and style....not for power per se......I think that those who bought high horsepower (TC) often got annoyed when their accomplishments were not acknowledged by the mainstream NAM guy.... when TULS posted 594.7.... I was astounded but I did not want that for my car......I congratlated him on an amazing feat but stll did not want that for my car...... often times I think they get pissed because they feel unappreciated for their committment..... maybe the 62 project was somehow taking away the glory of the TC... I could be wrong.... anyway, I love this forum and even like the bickering.... it ususally brings out alternative views with a lot of passion.....which I feed off of.....I can honestly say that if I got a call and was told that they could make my car 350 whp if I wanted .... I would pass....
