Drivetrain ECU Question
ECU Question
In Jan. of this year I purchased my 04 MCS. I have since some to realize that my redline is in the neighboorhood of 7200 rpm. Is there any way to detect if the ECU has been flashed and what type it could be? Thanks for any help.

7,200 RPM could be either Powerchip or GIAC, as both bump the rev limit to that. There's really no easy way to tell, but you could call both and see if they can check to see if your VIN # is on file as a customer. FYI the stock rev limit is about 7k.

Seriously, it could be powerchip, my redline is 7200 and its what I have. I'm not sure about the other flashes.

I think MTH tuner is up there as well.
just don't sweat it, and enjoy! Where did you buy your car? IF it was from a private party, go ask them. If not, oh well, at least you have a flash in your car!

I got it from a dealer that wasn't particulary familiar with MINI's here in Phoenix. They couldn't open the boot without my help
Don't worry....

Might not be flashed. Between the accurracy of the Tach and the actual rev limit it could be normal.
The few times my stock 2004 MCS has "hard limited" on me, when I looked at the tach it was around 7200. I suspect it starts to soft limit somewhat lower.

I did not realize how "harsh" and "out of line", I was being.
PS - MTH also raises the rev limiter
There is no stock software that has a 7200 RPM limit. The closest thing to stock that does have this higher redline is the older (pre-210hp) software package.
As far as reading which software is on there, not even a MINI technician with your car hooked up to their machine could tell you. Believe me I've asked around on this one.

the funny thing about the "search" post is that searching won't find the answer, any more than most of the respondants understood the question.
if i read it correctly, he's not asking which chips would raise the limit, but rather how to determine whether the car has been chipped or not.
domonic finally answered his question.
