Breaking a bolt during rear sway install... Should I be Worried?
My friend and I are going to install my H-Sport Comp rear-swaybar this Saturday morning. He is worried after seeing the "How-to" stickies that a bolt(s), in particular the rear subframe bolts, might stick or break during install. This would be a huge bummer, because I have AutoX this next week and I really don't want my car stuck at his house for a few days.
Should I be worried about this?
Should I order replacement bolts from the dealer?

We may have stripped one of mine, but it's still holding strong (I left it in, for fear of doing more damage taking it back out). I check on it weekly to see if it comes loose or begins to fail, but it hasn't budged.
There are 4 sub-frame bolts all together, so I'm banking on the other three to carry the stress load.

i would recomend the following:
1. do your research on how to install - Bentley manual is a great investment
2. patience when working on your car! #1 is always safety
3. the engineers designed the car so you never have to force things (maybe a stuborn bolt), so if you are fighting something, stop and think it through!
4. make sure you keep your socket/wrench square to avoid stripping and leverage the handle length to help avoid fighting too much.
good luck! So far I have only messed up one of the torx bolts that hold the rotor :S
phil.

Some searching on here might help, but a few years ago there was a wrong torque spec listed on a rear swaybar howto from outmotoring.com (i'm not sure where else the bad torque spec got copied). There are two bolts that hold the top of the rear strut to the car. I snapped the head off of one of them trying to torque it to the spec listed in the howto using my torque wrench. A few other people did the same. I wound up having to take it to a local mechanic to get the broken bolt drilled out.

I wouldn't fret about it. Though after seeing snid's posts, I got new bolts for the shock mounts.
Having done it, I think that was overkill, but what the heck.
I think the proper torque numbers are in the install instructions...

I did the install twice... no issues with any broken or stripped bolts.
just be careful and pay attention to what you are doing. none of that
listening to your iPOD and talking on your celphone while under the car.
