R50/53 Dark Silver w/silver roof ??
Dark Silver w/silver roof ??
For those of you who have this combo are you still happy with your choice? I'm having a tough time deciding between the ds/b and ds/s. The ds/s looks good in the pictures I've seen and I like that it is somewhat unique but I have never seen it in person. I've got a week to decide- HELP !!!
I saw it and it looked very good and "laid back". I orderd mine DS/B because I preferred the contrast.
I am lucky to be in driving distance of 6 dealerships, so I got to see a lot of interieor and interior combos. And this is my 2nd "new" Mini.
The website and brochures do not do justice to the actual cars. Do your best to check one out.
regards,
Red

See my gallery. I think it's a great combination that's a lot subtler than with the white roof but still provides some contrast. The combination sort of reminds me of this ferrari:

I like the subtle contrast of the dk silver with lt silver here as well

Plus it's combination you can only get in the US. I'm pretty happy with my choice 2 months on...in any case you really can't go wrong with whatever color combination you choose. I think the MINI looks great in any color combination.

My DS/S Mini is one month from arrival here and I'm very excited. I looked at several colors, mostly the different silvers, royal blue, and royal grey, and decided the DS/S combination was the most distinctive. The lack of bright colors allows the car's beautiful design to be what grabs your attention. "I'm looking at a cleverly-designed Mini that happens to be silver" versus "I'm looking at a bright yellow car that happens to be a Mini". Then I stared at one in the dealership on & off for about an hour and knew this was the one.
I shied away from the black top because (1) It's sunny & hot here and car would get extra hot while parked (2) Silver looks awesome and is a perfect complement to the dark silver body (3) It's really dusty here and black cars show it fast (4) Black is so popular in town I wanted something different.
If you order stripes, be sure to specify you want bright metallic silver material. My dealership had two silver Minis with stripes-- one done in a brilliant silver which was a perfect match for the silver roof. The other was a dull grey material that did nothing for the car's appearance.
Went with the alloy patina interior finish because (1) It fit with the subtle outside color and (2) all the other options have a high-gloss finish that would show scratches.
Good luck with everything! --doug

Here is my fiancee's , She loves the combo.
And we have had many compliments on it, plus both the stripe and roof are exclusive to 2006 models.

I haven't personally seen the combo in person, but I ordered a DS/S Checkmate. It's supposed to be in transit, my MA mentioned that he really liked the combo after we "built" it on the web site. Plus it seems to be kind of a exclusive combo as most people pick the black roof on the dark silver. I can't wait to get it, should be the only combo like that here in town.
Saw one today when I was leaving Central Market (similar to Whole Foods for those of you outside of Texas). Threw me at first because it was overcast and I was wondering if I was seeing the white roof as silver, so of course I had to walk over. Sure enough, dark silver with a silver roof and the silver u-stripe on the bonnet, just like the one 4RETECH posted.
Looked very clean and...I think understated would be the best word. Personally, I prefer the silver roof on the warmer Royal Grey over the colder Dark Silver, but then I'm a bit biased.
Honestly, Dark Silver is a beautiful color, and the silver roof is striking in person. I say go for it!

personally, ive seen the silver roof on a BRG and hyper blue MCS... it really was quite amazing.
I feel a contrasting color really makes makes the car stand out. It kinda blends too much with a DS background. my car is dark silver so i went back and forth on this already. I think it actually clashes with the chili red..

DS/S was my second choice when I ordered my MCS, and it was a tough decision. I would definitely go with DS/S over DS/B, and here's why.
With the DS/S you get a kind of gradient effect that's missing with the DS/B. For one thing, the S is metallic and the B is not, so you get a really nice continuity with the DS and S metallic finishes. Plus, in my experience there are a lot more DS/B than DS/S on the road, so your car would stand out more with a silver roof.
Personally, I think the contrast between dark silver and black on a cloudy or dark day is too subtle, and I really like the combination of dark silver and pure silver. I've seen both combos in person, and there was no comparison.
Good luck with your choice.

I tend to agree with you sjino. I was definitely leaning toward the ds/s and in reading most of the responses here I have pretty much decided to go with that. I really like the silver roof and to me the silver mirror caps really look cool as well. Thanks for all the responses. D-Day is Saturday !!
