Interior/Exterior Hardwiring a Power Inverter
Hardwiring a Power Inverter
I plan on Hardwiring a 300W Power inverter to my MINI and mounting it in the boot. I have a few questions. First, after I snip off the cigarette lighter plug in, what next? I wanted to mount it in the upper right corner of the boot. I am gonna make a few brackets and had planned on attaching them with screws, but have a problem. I have the boot mat and dont want to drill through it. I want to keep it there. Any ideas?
Thanks for all the help,
William

If you don't want to drill through the boot mat then what about the side of the access panel or wall of the boot? Or what about attaching it to the back of the foldable rear seats? I have an amp bolted to the back of one of my rear seat backs.
Or you can create a custom enclosure for the boot much like how people enclose subwoofers. Often they are painted (body color or anthracite) or covered with carpet.

I didnt think about the boot wall! Thats a good idea! Thanks
My other question is about the wiring. Do I need a fuse? All I know is that I need to snip off the cigarette lighter plug. What next?

Your inverter should already come with a 15A or so fuse, if not, you
can just pickup a fuse holder at Radioshack and just run it in series.
btw, i have several cars so i like to have some portability for my
inverter. what i did was used a small floor mat (for rear seats) and
tie strapped the inverter on top of it. you can just place it under your
seat or in your trunk, whereever, and not have to worry about it
sliding around in the car.
it's pretty cool.
