July 16th run to USS HORNET

SierraNevadaMinis will be going to Alameda Ca. to visit aboard the aircraft carrier Hornet... http://uss-hornet.org//... carrier Hornet name and this ship played a part of History. We will be joined by other club members for a tour. We will also have a chance to climb around on our own. Visit the Apollo 11 and 12 musuem, see WWII and newer aircraft. Have a ride if you wish in a flight simulator( not free). Purchase a hot lunch or bring your own (picnic aboard). Mark your calendar.. JULY 16th, Sunday. general admission $14 children under 14 ..$6...glenn

Glenn,

I second Peter's comments. This will be a memorable experience for everyone. It's a walk through history. Bring a camera and lots of film. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon. The guides are super and know the ship inside out and are a "special" bunch. You will not be disappointed.

Hope it's open to other MINIs. Bring the kids, grandpa & grandma, aunts and uncles.... there is something for everyone.

Don't forget that a ride through the Alameda Tube on the way can be alot of fun with a pack of MINIs. Growl!

Film? What's that? I've never heard of such a thing. Next, you're gonna tell me that CDs used to be bigger, spin at 33 RPMs, be made out of vinyl and were called "albums."

Glenn,

When we went to the USS Hornet, they let us park right along the ship on the dock. They love MINIs. I am sure you will get the good parking.

Have a great time. That is really an interesting place to visit. I am sure everyone will enjoy.

Could use a Head count on who might be going. The more we have the better chance of getting a discount on entry fee. Glenn

uss hornet

The newsletter went out late and the person who mailed them for me did not use the right postage and possibly left one without any postage so......I thought we would meet at north albertson's at 7 am for carson city and then we will pick up reno minis at krispy kreme at 7:30 and then if truckee minis want to go we can swing into truckee and get them. we will be going via hwy 80 through sacramento following glenn as he has done this run before.he does need an accurate head count asap so thanks for responding. lisa

Unfortunately, I am missing almost all the runs in July due to some pre planned trips made last year! It is also hard for me to schedule overnighters! bUT,M

I will catch up though as fall arrives...already planning a snowblower attachment!!!

runs

For Sierra Nevada Mini Coopers it is only one run a month and no overnighters. The Fort bragg is part of REME celebration. I just mention it in our newsletter in case anyone wants to go into california for a run. Alameda should be a great day. I've heard good things about it from others who went last spring. We couldn't make it due to snow. The fun thing is is that the more minis we have on a run the more people notice us and I love the smiles we get............I just sent in an article on the charity run in August. it centered around the dogs but I am sending in a seperate article on SNMC.It's just that we haven't really grown and it would be TOOOOO embarrassing if I pumped up the charity run and all and then no one showed. The Nevada Appeal is doing the article on us.Dog Town Canine Rescue gets about 1000 hits a week on thier web site. I gave her a picture of Dent(my rescued dog)and I in front of my mini. I hope this generates advertisement for our club.We need more minis on the once a month runs. See everyone sunday pm in Reno. I'm calling a few that don't get on NAM.Lisa

Just watched a morning news article on TV channel 2 about the Russian two-man space shuttel (Soyuz) that is being restored aboard the USS Hornet.

Thought you guys would like to know that the USS Hornet is "in the news".

Not suggesting that you purchase this print, but I found this link:

GOOD morning Nevada MIni's. Hope you are ready for a Historic day aboard the USS Hornet berthed at the former naval base at Alameda calif...In just one week the Hornet will be celebrating another anniversary of the Apollo 11 and 12 missions to the Moon...for those old enough that would be 1969. See this link to learn more www.uss-hornet.org..

run to Alameda

The USS Hornet was fun and educational. The stairs weren't so bad as I have bad knees(that's why I have an automatic mini cooper)so I enjoyed the day. It was hot on the way home but the boys road with Melissa in her convertable. Now my 15 year old son wants a convertable, thanks Melissa.Hiway 50 was beautiful as usual. We had 1 Tahoe, 3 Carson and 1 Reno go.The president of REME met us there and then a few others from Calif. Then one parked on the peir with us but was just visiting the Hornet, Maybe he thought Minis get private parking.Heeee Heeee You could see SanFransisco from the Hornet's deck. Very nice. I would go there again. Take my new mini cooler next time the run is hot. Hope everyone got the newsletter and tickets. Return money and/or un-used tickets to me by Aug.17 please. The Nevada Appeal will be there to do an article on us and the charity run.More on that soon. Thanks Glenn for the Hornet run, what a blast! Lisa
