Anybody else been hated on b/c of their MINI?

First, I'm not looking to start another "Is the MINI a gay car" thread, and I'm not on here to cry about what happened, just checking to see if this is out of the ordinary or becoming the norm.

First bad experience due to my MINI since I took delivery of the car in Sept. 2003. Last night, I'm driving down the street, minding my own business, when some dude in a beat up, crappy gold Nissan or Mazda or something is passing from the opposite direction. I had my windows down, and the guy just yells a slang term for homosexual that has three letters. I'm just like WTF? I just kept driving, it doesn't bother me that some people are jealous or insecure or just haters for whatever reason. What bothers me is if this is a growing trend that may escalate into more of the keyings and vandalism others have reported on this forum.

I know alot of people have been keyed and such, but has anybody else faced just random face to face hatred due to their car?

Chicks dig the car. Can't figure out how it could be considered gay?

You would think homosexual men would drive muscle cars to attract the men (if they're looking for that kind of thing.)

Don't worry about it. You'll never win... If you drive a jacked up truck, or a muscle car, there will be people who say you're trying to compensate for something...

If you drive a Mini, well you know the view about that already

I had two completely chotchy guys in a Chrysler Crossfire pull up to me at a light and flip me off. They peeled away as I just sat at the green light stopped, laughing my little head off.

I later caught up to them on the freeway and motioned the "roll your window down"... After they did I yelled out, "Hey there... I'm not understanding why you guys flipped me off"

Their response: "Uh... don't know what your talking about man..."

... ugh... I hate meat-heads.

Anyway... laugh it off. Confidence comes from within - not from other people. In fact, when people make fun of you, you can bet that they're just trying to make up for some insecurity they have.

While they think they're funny, really all you should hear is, "I'm weak willed and callow"

I haven't gotten any negative remarks yet.

I've gotten the twice from limos!

I get the occasional glare, but no one shouting as I am driving by.

Sometimes in parking lots i'll get a "I like your car" and things like that.

Actually, I'm not even an owner yet and experienced a bit of "MINI hate." I went to a gathering of our local MINI owner's club, and was checking out the engine of one the cars with the owner. An old rustbucket was driving by on the street, and the passenger hung out the window and yelled "That thing's crap!", or something of the sort. My response was "They must be jealous."

What he said. Once again (and again and again), I don't give a CRAP (no pun intended) what anyone else thinks nor need validation from other drivers. They don't like it ... tuff cookies.

And YES, the car is CUTE. Get used to it. its cute!

Of course, after the smart cars come, out, MINIs are going to get some stiff competition!

Maybe for mileage, but do the smart cars corner like a MINI?

I think not. Maybe the MINI clone Dodge Hornet, but a Smart car?????

That could just be the case of a JCW (maybe former cause they weren't in a MINI )owner knowing what was going on.

I've only noticed positive response during the past three years in Kansas City. The MINI appeals to a broad demographic. When I drove a BMW, I routinely got sneered at or clients would gulp and tell me that they were paying me too much (even though a loaded minivan or Jeep Cherokee costs more).

Sometimes I get the clown car comments, but always joking. Often times people ask just how fast these cars really are (maybe the saw Italian Job).

Other than a '59 Mercedes 220s, the MINI has garnered more thumbs up, and smiles than any car I've driven.

Go to http://www.smart.com

Look at the roadsters and the Brambus.

Much small than a MINI, about 1200 pounds, 101 HP, tires fatter than a MCS, never mind a MC, 225/35/17

It should runs circles around a MINI like a real go kart. 61 MPG!
need to see some numbers

The roadster is discontinued. We will never see them as smart. They sold and they will live on. They are all flash and no go. Did you see the review by top gear? I drove one in Germany, it is a dog, but I love it!

Chows,

I agree. These new Smarts could be very cool and quick.

I think Dr. Diff might be thinking of the Smart car fourtwo, Pink edition, which kind of brings us back to the original intent of this thread... a car that Rednecks would certainly laugh at... unless Miss July popped out of one.

I saw one today in Colorado this morning! I think he stared me down until I noticed him

Most times, someone mentions to me at the gas pump how they like my car, or strike up questions on fuel efficiency, etc...

However, I did have one guy come up to me in the frozen food aisle (after having been at the store for no more than 3-4 mins) and he said he liked my car... I've heard of pick up lines at the grocery store...

I had an ugly "talk" with a very angry old man last year,
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ghlight=manuel

And an invitation to fight from some wacko in a Suburban that cut me off in traffic and almost hit my car, then flipped me off at the next light, I pulled the parking brake and got out of my car, he took off in a big hurry.

I drove a 1970 Jaguar XKE as a daily driver for 3 years, men loved it, women never said anything, or even seemed to notice that anything was different about it, but in the Mini I get female attention DAILY, what a car !.

I have a decal on my back window that reads "KILL YOUR SUV"

Apparently, some owners of large SUVs don't care for it... But other than flipping me off or trying to box me in - nothing has happened yet...

My only negative experiences have been the occasional road rage incidents (purposeful tailgating, flip-offs etc.) exclusively from VW and Audi drivers. Dunno why this is. German car ***** envy maybe? Wait, can I say that word here? Jimbo

I have had Swatstikas spray painted with orange paint on my house with the words "Move out" on my driveway.(actually twice in one night).

Don't think anyone can offend me by what they say about my car. Which by the way, I have only got nice things about so far.

I've never had a problem w/ MINI-haters at all....not one. It may be because I'm getting older and greyer...I'm no competition for the hot shots and perhaps they feel proper respect is due. I've also left my Cooper very simple, benign, and OEM looking...I think an intentionally aggressive looking car might say, "Im all that" to punks intent on proving they are, in fact, even more "all that."

Three times now as I drove by I have had young women squeal loudly and shout to their friends that they wanted my Mini. I just smiled and waved and they waved back. No attempts to take it by force so far.

Now that you mention it, I've had similiar responses from teenage girls. It's kinda like the Austin Powers allure, but directed at the car... not the driver

OK, back when I first got my MCS in Autumn 04 I was coming out of a Safeway in one of Denver's sketchier neighborhoods and some filthy homeless guy was standing 10 feet in front of my car screaming bloody gibberish and shaking his finger at my car about how the English turned tail in the Great War (and other nonsense) and how nothing that's British deserves a place on American soil. I gently instructed him that it was a German car and he really lost it, stuff about *****, Bismarck, Wagner, etc. I then got in my car, he got of the way, and that was that. Very weird in a clinically insane sort of way. I don't think my car has ever recovered; I attribute my slight 2nd gear stumble to my car's fear of being judged. Jimbo
