Thanks! I was never on DiscoWeb, but was pretty active in the Defender community for awhile.

Honestly, that's one of the reasons I was so drawn to the Mini...the community.

Must be a low volume British car thing...

Chad (Detroit Tuned) and I had to run to the hardware store while he was working on my car recently. We took Tori's (thefuturequeenofnebraska) car. The pink one. Two guys. A pink MINI with "queen" all over it. At the hardware store. In Detroit.

No idea what anyone was thinking but we were having fun!!

We have had only positive comments made about our mini, everyone loves it. Some people are disappointed when they inquire about the gas mileage, and I just remind them that it is a sport car and we didn't get it for the mileage

Bravo!

BTW, is there any car that won't generate a negative comment by somebody? Drive an SUV, get glares from Prius drivers. Drive a ricer, soccer dad in his Minivan is jealously pissed. If they ever invent a 300hp, 200mpg, stylish, practical, well-mannered, convertible-hard-top-amphibious-cappucino-brewing, made-in-USA-with-global-roots sedan/roadster/PU/RV, somebody will still hate it (Thinking about what that would look like, I think I hate it )

i just wanted to chime in with... I get more "nice car" yellings and such then any other person i know.

In addition I also get more "nice car here is my phone number" type things happen to me then all of my friends with their riced up acura's and such.

Every once in a while i get a comment from some meat head driving a camero or something who isn't so well endowed obviously judging by his phalic compensation mobile. But u have to just shrug it off. In the end they are just pissed that if their car and your's were parked next to eacher, all you would hear all day is.... ooohhhh cool mini.

Just some kid in a beat up rust bucket ricer yelling the other night. Man was the wing on that POS sweet! I really couldn't hear him over the HK. Me and the wife were jamming. Mostly positive comments. Everybody loves it and wants to look at it. Like another owner said "If you like talking to strangers in parking lots.....get a Mini!"

You hit the nail on the head. There's always going to be somebody. And I've also noticed, anything that is popular, or perceived to be popular, is hated. From cars to rock groups and anything in between.

I do a lot of cycling, and I'm a member of a cycling forum. I accidentally mentioned on the forum that I was getting a Mini, and one of the other forum members immediately told me that Minis were "gay" and another said it was a "girl car".

I didn't respond to either post, but honestly, I ride around on a bike, in skin-tight lycra, and in an area full of pickup trucks flying confederate flags in the back window (the drivers of which have yelled a plethora of unsavory things at me). Why would anyone (especially another alleged cyclist) think that I would care in the slightest how someone else thinks I look?

Like kiddoc said, there's always somebody.

We had gone out to lunch today in coworker's POS 90 something vintage Caddy. On the way back in, I see a PS/B MCS pulling into the garage. I pulled my keys out of my pocket, held up the MINI key and waved. One of the smart asses with me said "You wave at every roller skate you see?". I mentioned my unmodified roller skate could hit 135 and with a few modifications go 150. I then get the standard "Those small things aren't safe" comment. I explained about the safety record and shut them up. I need to find some of the threads with pictures of accidents where people have walked away. By the way, the people who made the comments, make vanillia wafers seem spicy

I just showed one of the COWorkers that was making safety comments about MINIs the picture from Gunners accident. All he could say was "Huh, impressive". ROFLMAO

MINI hate in Indy.

Last night on my way to work, I pulled up to a stop light. The intersection has 2 left turn lanes and there was a car in both lanes. I was going left so I got behind one in the right of the two left turn lanes and waited. The light turned red and the guy sat there and put his hand out the windw flipping me the bird. I pulled around him and turned through the intersection. He pulls up along side and then starts yelling me, "Your PT CRUSER is not that hot of a car!" and he then yelled, "What did you pay for that thing... $10,000?" I just looked at the road and turned off to let him go.

I wonder if he was drunk?

[quote=HPUdrew]I have one on order too and have already caught some crap from a lot of people about it. I usually respond with "you would understand if you drove it, but since you think they are gay/stupid/girly/etc you won't have that chance."

I am 6'3 and around 250lbs, so a lot of people say "can you FIT in those little things?!" Nobody believes me when I tell them that they are quick, fun to drive, big enough inside, etc. Oh well, for the lucky few that get to go for a ride, they will quickly understand why I bought one. :-)

Drew[/quote

A friend of mine is 6'8" and if nobody is seated behind him, he is fine. He has much more room than in his Corolla.

Really... I have no idea what the deal is with some people. Both were blond females driving black SUVs -- it seems like they're power tripping on intimidating someone in a small car to me -- but with N=2 I'm not going to draw too many conclusions. Really gets my blood up though - hopefully its just coincidence. If I'd been driving aggressively prior I'd understand, but both times were without prior interaction.
They were just late to the Salon, on the phone, or both. And, no doubt think that the world revolves around them. Remember Billy Joel's credo: "Don't take any $@#! from anyone"

Now, if they had a Mini in the next Fast & Furious movie, these same kids would be giving you the thumbs up. Bunch 'o tools.

Sounds like mostly guys are getting the negative comments. As a gal I have never gotten one. I swear I can almost feel the tension ease in rush hour traffic when I pull beside someone. They usually look over & smile. Hec on the way back from the Dragon this year, I was almost home, & a Miata pulled up beside me on the interstate & gave me a thumbs up then when we got off at the same exit he gave me another as he turned left & I turned right

Well...you can shout whatever at me all day long & I really don't give a sh**. Don't like it....Well then don't look at it. .....but then again it's hard NOT to look at a MINI isn't it. ....guess the jokes on them!

I am from Texas so to some I am considered a redneck...I have a V8 SUV and a MINI....so what kind of redneck does that make me....well let me tell you.....It's the "I dont give F*** kind"...I like what I like & I'll drive what I well please TY!

As far as all the "UNRULY" drivers out there.........
I worked for UPS for 8 years & I learned that about 80% of drivers on the roads are complete CRACKHEADS....whether they are in an Audi or a Totota Camry......don't matter.....Learn how to freakin drive!....IF THE SPEED LIMIT IS 40....DON'T DO 28.....Your just as dangerous as the guy doing 60 in a 30.

I can't drive a 1/4 mile most days without seeing some fool making some classical driving error and adding my comments! My wife noticed an upcoming special on the local news about "road rage" & told me I needed to watch it....I told her....."I know I have road rage....I don't need a TV program to tell me that" .

I don't get irate & jump out of the car or flip people off or anything like that....not that I am above that...I just like life with as little DRAMA as possible!....Just let the haters hate!

I love this feature all 25 times or so I have used it "WORKS EVERY TIME". In my part of Texas we don't get much fog at all. I like to call it my RTB switch..."redneck tailgate buster".

I just wonder what they think when that little but "BRIGHT A** RED LIGHT" comes on! ....as they are backing away from it!

I had some kid in a POS Trans Am call me a f** as he drove by when I was stopped at a red light, but other than that it's all been positive. Last week at the car wash I got involved in an hour long conversation with this big, black guy who loved the car & wanted to know everything about it, which kind of surprised me. I guess my point is that we all can be guilty of stereotyping people sometimes.

My brother-in-law is a dyed in the wool redneck, and a firefighter, and he loves Minis. His wife thinks they're "chick cars." When we take delivery of our 06 JWC, we'll let her have a spin to show her how goofy she is.

Well said!

Most don't understand the difference between stereotyping & being a good judge of character.

F the naysayers.....I can count one one hand the # of times I have been stopped somehere & within speaking distance of someone & them NOT ask me something about the MINI.

I am also that classic muscle car head that likes my '68 camaro & loves my Harley Davidson...but it amazes me at how much more often people want to talk about , look at , sit in , go for a ride or drive the MINI ......that last one is only for a select few

I have met way more people in this car than I expected....as I didn't really expect any! If I pulled up somewhere in a Ferrari Enzo I don't think I would have met the people I have in a MINI. People from ALL walks of life have been intrigued by this car and it's weird (in a nice way) to see different people being so comfortable in approaching you with questions.

POS? Why was it a POS? Or is the "rhetorical" POS given to every car OTHER than a MINI?

Everyone seems positive to me. In fact, by far, the overwhelming question I get when someone approaches my car is, "What's the gas mileage on that car?".
